Chapter 7 - Hunting

"Well, it looks like they followed all the assignments and instructions. so we couldn't, teach them anything for failing. More testing and increasing the difficulty is needed."

"but for now it's counterproductive, let's just follow what was planned today."

"Another important point is that The black wolf, despite not being the strongest, took the lead quickly, and with what appeared to be hints of diplomacy."

"Only rabbits and sheep are group animals, and the rest don't care so much about hierarchy."

"According to the data, he's the smartest of them all. Maybe he convinced them and became their leader."

"For now, that's the most plausible answer."

"Not to mention, going forward, you also have to consider the potential each species has for the future of this project."

"That purple ice bear is the best species, even now when everyone is at their lowest. Going forward it has much more potential. There are already nobles fighting to get it."

"The dark wolf too, it's something many collectors among our patrons want. Take special care of them."

" Unfortunately it is not possible, next, we will start with the medium sized animals, the boss said the experiment was first, so we can't give them special care."

"who cares the ones in area three fixed the problem in the future there will be more of these same species, even if these die it's not a big loss"

"...now with respect to the wave frequencies emitted by the..."

While resting, as was his habit, Cassiel paid attention to what the researchers were saying.

'damn, that means more pain, well go ahead bastados, I'll be sure to give them back to you'.

he certainly heard interesting things this time and already understood why they were giving nonsensical instructions, but then they started talking about more technical topics that he didn't quite understand. Still, he made sure to remember them.

He was hungry, and the researchers didn't seem to have any intention of giving him food. He had no choice but to drag out one of the rabbit carcasses and eat it.

He had no qualms about doing so; after all, since he had become a wolf, he had only eaten raw meat and was used to it, although blood wasn't exactly to his liking.

Crock

Curiously, as he ate, his eyes met the red eyes of the rabbit in his group. For some reason, Cassiel found the mere presence of that rabbit amusing alone.

The one that mocked the ironic in a way, he found it very amusing that that rabbit was in this situation along with the rest of the beasts.

Not to mention that, right now, Cassiel was chewing on one of him own kind.

He wondered how it would react, but the rabbit simply averted its gaze and wandered off in what looked like a search for its own food.

He wondered what it would do, In general, beasts of his kind could be omnivorous, but the beasts here were more or less like him.

While he had seen the rabbit attack some with its paws and teeth and even helped him finish them off himself, he thought that for the rabbit to eat them was another story.

However, against his expectations...

'That rabbit is crazy.'

For the former 'Crazy Fire Wizard' to call you crazy was, in a way, a compliment. That thought came because the rabbit, without hesitation, began eating another rabbit's corpse.

Even for Cassiel, he thought that was depraved,

'I'm not going to harass him too much.'

He knew better than anyone that messing with a mad was not a good idea, With that in mind Cassiel went on eating quietly, his rabbit, and went for more, as it was the only thing more or less desirable among the dead beasts.

..

'Well, now this is an improvement.'

Cassiel felt the strand of mana inside him double in size. It was little, but an improvement. Finally, he felt things really starting to move. With more eagerness, he looked towards his next prey.

"Wooooo!" (Get ready).

After a two-hour break, in which everyone had eaten their fill and rested, the researchers seemed ready to begin the next phase.

Cassiel stood in the center and howled, relaying the orders. None of the beasts put up any resistance; so far, all the hunts had been successful.

These beasts already understood that following him was what they needed to do to carry out the humans' orders, and that was a priority.

The researchers had been thorough, and the beasts were intelligent and obedient. Because of what they suffered in Area Four, only Cassiel had a fully formed and rational identity.

The next rounds, Cassiel heard, would be against larger animals. Interestingly, they began with ten gray wolves. Unlike the previous confrontations, this time it was a fight rather than a hunt.

The wolves attacked head-on. There were only eight in their group, but because the rabbit and sheep were not active fighters, only six could fight.

Luckily, the tigers and bear managed to bridge the gap a bit, and with Cassiel's orders, everything was kept under control. The rule for this round was that each beast had to kill at least one enemy.

But as he had done from the beginning, Cassiel left one of the wolves half dead for the rabbit and the goat. They would just finish him off and move on.

Cassiel looked forward to his mana continuing to grow with each engagement.

The waves of enemies continued with different animals. It seemed that the researchers ran a standard, because Cassiel noticed that as the natural strength of the beasts increased, the number of opponents decreased.

In the third wave, with green tigers, there were only six. He realized that the researchers were progressively and efficiently guiding them to make them more powerful.

For the first time, Cassiel appreciated their method.

By the end of the day, he had met all the requirements.

At this point, their teamwork was efficient and coordinated, and none of the beasts hesitated to follow his orders.

Even the bear, who at first seemed the most reluctant, had eventually stopped questioning him.

This teamwork seemed to satisfy the researchers. By the time everyone, including the bear, was a bit fatigued, he had heard from the ever-talkative researchers that there was only one round left and only one opponent. But this time, it wasn't a beast.

'So there are those here too, huh?'

Cassiel, who had managed to understand many things and put them together with common sense, realized something important.

Not only did he have to consider the idea that he was in another world, but also the possibility that he had traveled to the future or something similar.

The logic of the world seemed to follow, for the most part, what he knew, so that too was a possibility. But just like the other theory, it was all an unanswered unknown.

What he found this time was also something he knew: a humanoid creature. But unlike a human, it was twice as big.

The bear, which was the largest of the group, barely reached his chest. Its fur was grayish, it had a prominent nose and fangs protruding from its jaw.

This was not a beast like the previous ones. This fell into the category of monsters.

Cassiel knew that these humanoid creatures were not intelligent like humans, but neither were they unreasoning beings like the beasts.

Their intelligence was limited, but it existed. In fact, one could say that the beasts in his group were now in them same intelligence range.

They were treated just like beasts: as beings to be hunted and eliminated.

This was an orc. Cassiel thought that, like the previous beasts, he was also in a mana-less state, which made him the weakest of his race.

Still, it possessed great strength and was probably stronger than the purple bear. In addition, he held a mace in his hand.

Cassiel analyzed it for a moment and quickly worked out a simple plan of attack, based on what he had observed of the beasts so far.

"Woorf!" (Attack, hand, stop, stick).

"Grrraaah."  (Good)

Cassiel gave a command to the bear, and it excitedly responded and attacked the orc. He concentrated, as Cassiel had instructed him, on the hand that held the big mallet.

But he was no fool; he knew that either that club or the other hand would strike him if he attacked head-on. So, when the orc swung his weapon with intent to strike it, the bear stop.

The blow missed and hit the ground. Seizing the moment, it circled the staff and, with its claws and jaws, began to do damage to the hand that held it.

"Ughhh!!!"

The orc, who was much taller than the bear, tried to shake him off, but he clung to his arm, causing even more damage.

The bear knew they was weaker than the huge monster, but they had seen in the previous rounds how even a wolf had hunted a bear him size. they had realized that size wasn't everything, so did his part.

"Wuuu ." (Feet, you guys)

Cassiel gave an order to the tigers to attack one foot each, along with the lizard and the blue wolf.

He also gave an order to the sheep and the rabbit, the latter of which climbed on his back. Cassiel had realized that it was more efficient to have the rabbit nearby, so he wouldn't have to call him when he let him finish off a prey.

He looked at the orc, who was currently being besieged by five beasts. He struggled to shake them off, throwing kicks and swinging his one free hand, but the beasts were alert and dodged his attacks.

The bear was holding his other arm, making it difficult for him to move and had even dropped the mallet, leaving him unarmed.

His free hand was still a problem, but other than the bear, no beast reached beyond his waist.

Cassiel had already given the orders, so she waited for the right moment. When the orc, with no room to think of anyone else, didn't notice that the sheep had surrounded him and started running to gain momentum.

Cassiel was waiting for the right moment to join.
