Chapter 24 - life on her own 2

Dhruv walked into the house, dropping his keys onto the console table. It was 3:00 pm, and he was looking forward to unwinding with Ruby. As he entered the living room, he spotted her sitting on the couch, her arms crossed and a scowl etched on her face. He couldn't help but chuckle at the sight.

"Hey, what's wrong, baby?" he asked, sauntering over to her. He plopped down beside her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Did Jowell get to you?" he teased, trying to lighten the mood.

Ruby shook her head, her pout deepening. Dhruv's curiosity was piqued. "Then what's going on?" he asked, his voice laced with concern.

Ruby hesitated before explaining the situation. Dhruv listened intently, his expression amused. When she finished, he burst out laughing. "Who was she?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with mirth.

Ruby's face turned red with annoyance. "Some fatty lady," she muttered, her voice dripping with attitude.

Dhruv chuckled again, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You're jealous," he teased, his voice low and husky.

Ruby's denial was immediate. "I'm not!" she protested, her arms crossing tighter over her chest.

Dhruv knew better. He could see the spark of jealousy in her eyes. He leaned in, his lips brushing against her ear. "I know you too well," he whispered, his breath sending shivers down her spine.

Ruby's resolve crumbled, and she laughed. "Fine, I was jealous," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I just don't like it when you talk to other women."

Dhruv's heart swelled with affection. He took her hand, his fingers intertwining with hers. "You have nothing to worry about, baby," he reassured her. "I only have eyes for you."

As they sat there, Dhruv had an idea. "I've got something for you," he said, a sly smile spreading across his face.

Ruby's eyes lit up. "What is it?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.

Dhruv's smile grew wider. "Close your eyes," he instructed.

Ruby hesitated for a moment before closing her eyes. Dhruv pulled out a small box, his heart racing with excitement. He opened the box, revealing a stunning diamond necklace. Ruby's eyes flew open as he fastened the necklace around her neck.

"Wow," she breathed, her fingers tracing the sparkling diamonds. "It's beautiful."

Dhruv smiled, feeling a sense of satisfaction. "I'm glad you like it," he said, his voice filled with emotion.

But Ruby's expression turned serious. "Dhruv, it's real," she said, her voice laced with concern. "Where did you get the money for this?"

Dhruv's mind went blank. He hadn't expected her to notice. Before he could come up with an excuse, Jowell appeared, saving him from the awkward situation.

"The owner didn't have any fake ones, so I negotiated a good price for him," Jowell explained, a mischievous glint in his eye.

Ruby's face lit up with a smile. "That's so sweet of you," she said, leaning over to kiss Dhruv's cheek.

Dhruv breathed a silent sigh of relief, grateful to his brother for covering for him. As Jowell walked away, Dhruv turned to Ruby, his eyes locking onto hers. "I'm glad you like it," he said, his voice filled with emotion.

Ruby's smile softened, and she leaned into him. "I love it," she whispered, her lips brushing against his ear. "But next time, let's discuss small purchases, okay?"

Dhruv grinned, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. "Deal," he promised, sealing their agreement with a kiss.
