Chapter 4 - Intense Combat

Day 2 of the Greatest Apocalypse.

*CLICK*

Daniel opened the door cautiously, holding his knife defensively in front of himself, while checking left and right for any threats.

'It's safe.'

The hallways were empty. It seems most of the zombies were either in their rooms or out on the streets when they transformed.

'Good for me then.'

Taking a deep breath, Gerald fully cake out and closed the door behind him with a soft 'click'.

One step... Two steps... Three steps.

Gerald got to the front of Flat 19.

Also known as the room next door.

He knocked softly.

No answer.

He tried opening the door, but it was locked.

Apparently, his neighbour wasn't home.

To be sure, he called out softly, but received no answer in return.

'I'll try to enter later, but let's move on for now.'

Pulling out a yellow sticky note he had prepared previously, he stuck it on the door.

The sticky notes were an integral part of his clwan-up of the building.

He had prepared two types of notes;

Yellow for unexplorable/unexplored,

And Green for explored.

All for better efficiency.

Without wasting time, he went on to the next room.

*KNOCK**KNOCK*

"Rarrr!"

A soft roar, dulled in volume by the door.

Instantly, Gerald entered a heightened state, in a state of both excitement and calm.

After affirming that the door was unlocked, and it opened inwards, he took a step backwards, and kicked it with all his might.

Like this, even if the zombie was right behind the door, it should be thrown off balance.

There were no zombies in the hallway, so the sound was of no consequence.

*BANG*

The door flew open. When Gerald rushed in however, prepared for an intense fight, he was dumbfounded by what he found.

"RAARRR!"

The zombie roared even more violently, struggling violently, but it was all for naught.

Its lower body was trapped under a fallen wardrobe, and it was only able to thrash its arms in every which direction frenziedly, dislocating them in the process.

Gerald walked up to it, slightly helpless, and raised his arm.

*SWISH**THUCK*

Straight into the back of its head.

'Now this is just too easy.' He shook his head.

'Where is the blood-pumping action I was anticipating?'

{Your Physique has increased slightly}

That prompt again.

Gerald was slightly confused, but soon got the gist of the matter.

Apparently one's attribute would increase after killing a zombie, whether he had Limitless Evolution or not.

However, Limitless Evolution allowed him to get stronger during combat.

So basically a double layered strengthening.

'Now that's decent.'

A warm sensation arose inside Gerald. When it was gone, he felt a noticeable increase in strength.

"I probably wouldn't struggle as much against that zombie if I had this enhancement." He muttered.

He went straight for the kitchen, looking for anything he could find.

Opening the fridge, he saw it stocked to the brim with fresh vegetables and meat.

'Hot damn. Pity most of this will most probably go to waste.'

Even though there was still a power supply for now, nothing guaranteed it was going toast very long.

With no one to man the power plants, everyone's electricity supply was walking on thin ice.

'If I see other survivors, maybe I can share, of trade some with them.'

However, he was not too optimistic. He had watched enough movies and read enough novels to know how an Apocalypse could warp the human heart.

After taking what he could into his backpack, he exited the apartment and closed the door firmly behind him, before slapping a green sticky note on it.

'Two down, forty eight more to go.'

His resolve reinforced itself with each step.
