Chapter 7 - "We need Reinforcements!"

First of all, it was the first time Gerald was seeing an attribute increase 'significantly'.

Secondly...

"We can gain skills?" He asked no one in particular. Before he could process it though, he felt a ball of heat flow to his limbs.

One more intense than ever before.

He quickly rushed into the apartment and found a corner to sit, gripping his bat tightly. The effect of two attribute strengthenings was immense, leaving him barely capable of movement.

A few minutes of this passed by, before the torment was over. And Gerald could immediately feel the difference.

A fly noisily flew by him, noisily making its presence known.

Suddenly,

*SWISH*

Gerald's hand turned to a blur as he snatched the fly of thin air, then looked at it in his hands in slight amazement.

'This is next level Shi. My agility has almost doubled.'

His straight line speed would probably be nearing 20 m/s at this point.

A flashing notification at the corner of his eyes brought him back to his senses.

{Load Skill - Shadow Dash ?}

Gerald took a deep breath, clenching his fist with twinkling eyes.

'My rise begins from here'

"Load Skill."

Unlike the usual heat, q cool feeling that chilled one to the bones originated from his lover belly and spread to his limbs. His eyes glazed over for a few moments, before he finally returned to normal.

He instinctively knew how to use the skill proficienly, even though he had just gotten it.

His talent played a huge role in this, though he didn't know it yet.

Day 6 of the Greatest Apocalypse.

*RATATATATA**BOOM*

The sounds of gunfire filled the woods, as the night was lit up by hundreds of flashes from he line of fire.

A squadron of soldiers, accompanied by a few tanks and IFVs were shooting at a pack of wolves.

Normally, this would be overkill, but there was something about the situation that made one stop.

These wolves, were all zombies!

And not just the normal, slow zombies. If anyone of the soldiers had an appraisal skill at this moment, they would have seen that the majority of this zombies were Stage 2.

Their base physical capabilities had given them an edge, and they were probably high-mid tier even among Stage 2 zombies.

Tyrion, the commanding officer of the squadron, had an ashen expression. He barked orders continuously, trying his best to salvage the situation, but...

There were too many enemies!

"Sir! The Zombie Wolves have broken the first defense line!" A captain cane to report to him.

Tyrion took a deep breath and calmed himself down.

"Do we have an estimate on their numbers? And how many men do we have left?"

"Half a thousand and counting, sir! At least thirty of our brothers have been sacrificed."

Tyrion sucked in a cold breath.

There were only a hundred and fifty men in their squadron, and if thirty had died after just ten minutes of fighting, then the situation was very precarious indeed.

'We can't retreat now. The settlement is barely half done and there are too many openings.'

He gritted his teeth.

The remnants of the government had responded swiftly after the Apocalypse. After realising there was no chance of restoring the order that existed before, they quickly tried to eke out safe areas.

The outskirts of Chicago was one of those places.

But six days wasn't enough time to build a fully completed settlement with sturdy walls and a semi-stable economy. Especially since there were attacks almost every other day. There were already thousands of people living here, along with three Mechanised Infantry squadrons, but the situation was already desperate.

"We need reinforcements!"

Tyrion yelled into the communicator.
