Chapter 3 - Urrigon Targaryen's Faith

Early 120 AC

The royal sept had a cold that seemed to seep into Urrigon's bones. His green robes did nothing to aid him.

Dawn had come and its light shined through the high windows of the sept, the crystal windows turning the sunlight into rainbows. Along with the fragrant candles, which smell of incense, this gave the sept a mystical air.

Urrigon knelt at the front, ahead of the many rows of benches meant for worshipers, the morning chill now biting his skin.

Despite this, he knelt to pray to the altars of the Seven, each one made of pale a marble.

He prayed to the Father Above, to judge his family with mercy and accept their human frailty.

He prayed to the Mother to bless his own, to give Queen Alicent peace no matter what trial she may face.

He prayed to the warrior to give him and his brothers the courage to stand against any injustices that may be imposed on their family.

He prayed to the Maiden, pleading to her to protect his sweet sister Helena's innocence, love and beauty. To keep her from being corrupted by the Red Keep.

He prayed to the smith to strengthen his resolve so that he may do his duty.

He prayed to the Crone, to grant his Father wisdom, that her lantern may light the way for him to see the truth.

And he prayed to the Stranger to never face his family, for he loves them dearly.

"In the light of the Seven who are one," said Urrigon, head still bowed, his hair covering his closed eyes, "...let it be"

He stayed in the position for momment before he stood up.

Turning his back to the altars and towards the entrance where his unofficial sworn sword stood vigilant.

His white armor matching his cloak and intricate suits of white, enameled scales.

"Sir Rickard Thorne, while I am grateful for your diligence, I've already told you that there is no need for you to attend to me this early. A Kingsguard needs his rest after all."

Ser Thorne furrowed his brown brows,

" There is no need for Prince Urrigon but my duty towards the royal family comes first and I was charged to protect and guard you by your mother".

"If it wasn't for the conditions of your appointment to the Kingsguard, I would tell you that you should follow the will of the King and not of my mother's the Queen," Urrigon said while he walks to the entrance, nearing the Knight.

He lightly patted the shoulder of Ser Thorne" But because of those conditions, I will not complain but rather thank you, for staying by my side".

The Kingsguard smirked, bowing his head, " I am only doing my duty, my prince ".

Urrigon didn't smile back,he never did but gave a nod. He gave a push and oppend the sept's doors " Then let me do mine next".

Prince and Kingsguard travel down the serpentine steps of the royal sept toward the Red Keep. The young prince walked with his head held eye, passing servants who were preparing for the day ahead, some blushing while they gaze at him. The Red Keep residents had just begun to wake.

Traveling to Maegor's holdfast which housed the royal apartments, the destination being his own.

Urrigon had come to realize that the sight of him and Ser Rickard so early had become a common occurrence along with the younger residents gawking at him, barely hiding their desires

Finally reaching his room, which he entered while Ser Thorne stood outside guarding the room

Urrigon walked yowards his room's mirror.

Staring at the face that seemed to be catching attention already at the age of twelve namedays. His rich, reddish-brown curls cascaded down to his shoulders, with him being the only child to inherit his mother's hair. The rest of his features were all prime examples of his valyrian heritage. All but his mismatched eyes, one a valyrian dark amathyst and the other bright emerald.

It was said that he had inherited those eyes from his grandmother Alyssa Targaryen, mother of the King and his uncle.

A would be queen if she lived.

All these features combined were the reason for the servants' stares and the courtiers' mutterings. He looked nothing like those around hum and some already called him a beauty if they thought they wouldn't be heard.

Urrigon stopped his morning inspection and went to prepare his own bath.

Usually, servants would do such menial tasks but after he caught some too eager to serve him, he forbade them from his room. Being the only royal with manners seemed to endear him to them.

Once the bath was filled, he took off his robes and slowly sank himself into the bath, taking a deep breath.

The water was cold, it helped him to relax and prepare for the day.

The peaceful atmosphere was shattered when he heard his apartment entrance burst open.

He could hear Ser Rickards barking a reply, the usually stoic Kingsguard acting unlike himself.

Urrigon put a hand on his face in exasperation. He knew Ser Rickard wouldn't let anyone disturb him, let alone barge into his room. Only a few could do so.

His mother would still be preparing for the day and the king would most likely be doing the same. That left his sib–

"There you are!"Aegon walked into his washrooms, stopping by his bath."

Aemond said you'd be by the sept, but I know you wouldn't wake up that early".

His older brother's light violet eyes looked down at him, unbothered by the fact that Urrigon was submerged in the bath.

"Aemond was right," he muttered

"What?"his brother raised a silver gold brow

"Aegon, have you ever heard about privacy?"Urrigon said, sighing as he continued to wash himself.

"No, is she pretty?"Aegon smirks, sitting on the edge of the bath.

Urrigon stared at his elder, a year older. Aegon had their father's eyes and hair but his face was all their mother's. They even looked the same when they cried

.

"Why are you here, Aeg?" Urrigon said as he scrubbed both of his arms.

"Can't I visit my little brother?"

"You have two more of those."

"But your my favorite, Aemonds a twat and Daeron always tells on me to mother" Aegon threw his hand up in frustration.

" Daeron is still scared, he thinks the King will try to send him to Oldtown again".

Urrigon still remembered how Daeron was nearly sent away, to be "fostered. The King always sought to appease Rhaenyra, their eldest sister. He often seemed to forget he had more than one child.

"Father saw reason," Aegon said, face scrunched up with annoyance. "After we "convinced" our nephews how horrible it would be for them to lose their uncle's presence".

Urrigon nearly scoffed," Hand me a cloth Aeg" his aubrone hair dripping with water.

"Already done?"Aegon said as he stood up, fetching the drying cloth and handed it to him.

"Fortunately, our youngest is still with us but we lost all goodwill we could've had with Rhaenyra and her sons."

"The whore and her brood?"

"She's a princess, you should show her the due respect" Urrigon chastised while drying himself." After all these walls have ears, now move".

Urrigon stepped out of the bath and pushed Aegon aside, stepping back into his room and cloth wrapped around his waist.

"You're the one who planned it! "Aegon said while following him." And we all know what she is, for Seven's sake, even the servants whisper about it!

"Exactly, servants. Though they do us a great service no one of note cares what rumors they spread to one another" Urrigon turned to stare at his brother.

Despite being a year younger they were the same height and if their mother was right, he would soon surpass his elder.

"You are the firstborn son to the King, your words hold weight".

"This again?! Who cares? Father barely acknowledges us and everyone knows he prefers Rhaenyra over me!"Aegon spat as he shook his head.

"You speak the truth brother but your actions say otherwise."

"What are yo–"

"Your breath smells of wine,Aeg" Urrigon's mismatched eyes bore into Aegon's violet.

"You still try to get close to him through it?"

"So what? Father pays attention to me when we are both in our cups, if it wasn't for Daeron telling mother i'm sur–"

"Daeron told mother because he cares for you. He doesn't want you to be like the King"

"And what's wrong with that?"

Urrigon raised a singular auburn brow,"Really?"

Aegon turned around, back facing his brother,"Hmph"

"You're facing the wall."

"So what?"

Urrigon walked to the apartment's door and held it open, Ser Rickard standing vigil outside by the door .

"Do me a favour dearest brother and go bathe yourself, we have training later"

"Of course you mentioned training" Aegon turns around and walks out, passing the Kingsguard "It's another thing you're obsessed with".

"The seven curse a slothful heart, who else will defend you from your consequences?"Urrigon said while closing the door but his brother's hand stopped him.

"You didn't defend Aemond," His brother said with a grin.

Urrigon's eyes seemed to return it, but his face remained cold,"Defend him from what?"

Before his elder could respond he slammed the door shut and walked back to the mirror.

"The seven commands us to be truthful and for all that is holy... Aemond is a twat".
