Chapter 7 - CHAPTER FIVE: THE KNIGHT CONQUERS, AND NEW FOE

With hands right around the rebar, Max narrowed his eyes and dropped into a stance. A wolfish from stretched across the villain's face as he crouched, coiled like a spring and ready to pounce.

The two were ready for battle as they set to attack.

A breeze passed through the area. Max bolted forward with as much speed as possible. The villain grinned as he shot to meet the attack with one of his own. His hand flashed with a purple gleam as he swung down.

.

"Hammer Fist!"

.

The punch shattered the ground with destructive force. Spider web cracks sped through the ground. But Max was already in the air having anticipated the attack.

He swung down, the rebar hitting the villain's left shoulder. Though he grimaced at the blow, the villain didn't slow down. His mouth stretched into a wide, predatory grin as he swung backwards.

Max flung his rebar to meet the attack to brace himself. At the last moment he pushed himself back simultaneously to give space. He panted slightly in the crouch.

Massaging his shoulder, the villain let his mouth stretch into a wide predatory grin. "Hero, you'll have to do better than that to take me down. Don't disappoint me!" With a sudden burst of speed, he hurled himself forward. His body taking on a silverish hue.

Golden eyes widened, pushing themselves to track the burst of speed. On instinct, Max raised the rebar to block the attack. But at the last moment, the villain crouched low. A purplish glow emanated from his hand as he punched Max with a catastrophic blow.

Before Max could be flung away, the villain's hand shot out to Max's leg. "Where are you going, Hero? Try harder!" he slammed him down onto the pavement with a bone-rattling impact.

Bouncing hard off the asphalt, Max felt his vision flicker—but he gritted his teeth, forcing himself to wake just in time to swing at the villains skull.

"C'mon, Hero! Try more!" the villain bellowed. He grabbed the rebar with Max and hurled him away.

Max's body shot through the air as it bounced on the cracked road before collapsing a few moments later.

The civilians grew worried at Max's state. They put their hope in the boy who was going against the villain, seeing him already taken care of, they panicked.

Jiro's eyes never left Max throughout the fight. As she saw him getting beaten up and pummeled, she wanted to go and help. But she knew she wouldn't be able to do anything. When he was flung away, her body wanted to just go and meet him, but looking down, she saw her hand shaking. She was scared. She cursed herself for her cowardice, gritted her teeth as she shouted. "Max, you can do this. You said you wanted to be a pillar one day, so be that pillar Max!" It left a bitter taste in Jiro as she spoke. But if it helped Max anyway possible, she would do it.

Max's vision was blurred. Each breath was sharp and prickly at his throat. He gritted his teeth as he forced himself to stand up with the rebar.

He glanced back at the civilians behind him, his gaze fell on Jiro. His eyes hardened in resolve, he forced his back straight, a wide, daring grin on his face, his quirk activated with his resolve as his eyes blazed with a golden hue.

The villain grinned at the resolve, "Good, that's how it should be. Heroes should never give up. But can you endure what comes next, Hero!" his body shook with a silverish hue as he exploded forward.. Moments from Max, a purplish glow covered his clenched fist as he punched.

.

"Devastating Punch!"

.

Max's hands whitened. Focus. His eyes tracked every twitch of the incoming attack. His heart thundered in his chest. His blood warmed and flowed freely. He felt light. Free. Stronger.

Then like a key opening a door, something clicked in him. The golden glow in his eyes flowed down and clothed the rebar in his hands, and then he swung upwards

.

"Mighty Slash!"

.

A golden arc of energy collided with the villains strike; the strike blowing the villains body with tremendous momentum crashing into the pavement a few metres away.

The villain groaned, his body aching, but the battle grin on his face seemed to stretch even wider. He rose up to a knee, "Wonderful. That's it, hero! Let's fight more Hero!!!" the villain bellowed through bloodied teeth.

Max offered a bloody smile, panted slightly and streaked forward.

The villain cackled, shot forward to meet his attack.

The two were a blur of fists and slashes, each attack leaving a bruise on the other or a broken bone. But both men had wide grins on their faces. Max ducked under a wild hook, the rebar cackled in golden energy as he swung upward. The villain crossed his hands and tanked the attack. Long trenches left in his wake.

Max's breath was ragged. 'I have to finish this. This new attribute is taxing. I'll end it now.' he concluded. The golden energy flared more on the rebar, he pushed as much energy into it as possible, a sword like construct formed around it. The wind blew, tousling his hair.

The villain grinned at Max, also panting hard. He could feel the many broken ribs and bones in his body. But he wouldn't go down so soon, not like this. His hand glowed a deep purple, closer to black. He poured all his energy into it. This would be the last, and he could feel the Hero's as well. So he lunged forward. "Lets end this now Heroooo!"

Max gripped the rebar with both hands. In a slow, measured fashion, he brought it to his face. Raised it up high, his mouth stretched in a victorious smirk. "This ends now ye villain." he pushed his quirk more, the rebar flared brighter.

.

"Absolute Slash"

.

With a mighty impact, he drove the rebar downward with a crushing impact. A radiant arc of golden light streaked from the blade, racing toward the villain.

The blade connected with the villain's body and exploded with terrifying might. The villain's body shot out, embedding into a building. His head dropped as he was knocked out.

Jiro released a breath she didn't know she was holding. Her eyes widened in just awe. 'H…he beat him. He really did.' The thought flowed through not only her, but the rest of the civilians.

She scrambled forward without a single thought as she saw his falling body.

"M…max, are you alright. Max" she gently shook him, not knowing what kind of injuries he sustained. She grimaced, inspecting them closer, it wasn't small. She couldn't help but chuckle. "Max, you're really crazy you know that."

Max chuckled, not bothering to move from his position. "So I've been told. But the villain has been bested and so you all are safe."

The other civilians looked at Max in gratitude for what he did. Moments later, police arrived. Captured the villain and put him in custody. An ambulance also arrived, taking Max, and with a very insistent Jiro.

In the hospital, the inspector asked Max some questions. Max gave the credit to the previous Hero from before and asked how he was. After some more questioning, the inspector left. Jiro turned to Max questioningly. "Why didn't you take the credit?"

Max simply chuckled, "Jiro, i need no applause for something i already set my heart to do. I'm not doing it for fame. But for hope. Thats all." a smile made way to his face as he looked down at his clenched fists.

A blush made way to Jiro's face. She quickly covered her face 'Dammint, why'd you have to go say something so cool now.'

She quickly composed herself, absentmindedly twirling her earlobes. "Yeah, but try not to die on your way."

Max chuckled, "Yeah."

The room door slammed open, Juilius and Shizuka rushed inside, their faces in worried expressions. "Max!!!"

Shizuka quickly checked him of any injuries. "MAxy what happened dear? We heard there was a villain's attack and you were injured. What happened? Are you okay?" she asked him.

Julius placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Shizu, don't overwhelm the boy." his gaze rested on Max, a glance over, he relaxed slightly as he saw the injuries weren't too severe. "Max, what happened."

Max gulped slightly and explained everything.

Moments later.

"Are you insane!" shizuka's voice sounded in the hospital ward.

Max winced slightly at the shouting, he opened his mouth to explain but was cut off. "Why would you do that? What would have happened if you didn't beat him huh. That was reckless, what if…what if." she stuttered out, she threw her hands in frustration, "Max, never do that again. Promise me this."

Max looked down, "I'm sorry mother, but I can't promise that. I'm sorry."

The room was silent. Only the gentle hum of the AC sounded in the background.

Julius sighed, "We'll talk about this when we get home. For now, the most important thing is that he's okay." he spoke gently.

A tired sigh escaped from Shizuka's mouth. She placed a gentle hand on Max's head, stroking it gently. "Max, what will I do with you?" she placed a gentle kiss on his head, then her hand shot to his ear, "But we will definitely speak about this at home, don't think you can get away that easily."

Max nodded quickly.

The room soon turned peaceful and jolly again.

A few buildings away, a figure stood. A pure white coat covering his body, green eyes stared from behind glasses as he gazed at the family in the building.
