Chapter 74 - Concern

To say that Nezu was concerned would be an understatement. Despite not caring much whether most humans lived or died, he was particularly fond of his students and his school, as he had defended them against hundreds of threats in the past 50 years.

Now he could only watch as the biggest threat to his school, and students played house every day. Carter had gone from an aggressive some somewhat unstable young adult, to spending quality time with those who liked him.

He saw through the school cameras as Carter spent more and more time with Katsumi and Yoayorozu, and he didn't like it. Not just because he knew that Carter was a good two decades older than them, but because it made no sense.

The Carter he knew was hateful, aggressive, and wanted nothing to do with being a hero. He'd lashed out several times at both staff and students during his stay at U.A. He'd even threatened some of them several times.

So to see him acting all jovial, playing and prancing around, Nezu was nervous. Especially since dragon sightings across the country and the globe hadn't slowed down with Carter stuck on campus.

In Japan, there was the massive Ice dragon that seemed to enjoy preaching about the hypocrisy of Heroes and villains. Slaughtering all who came to challenge it, he was afraid it might join up with the League, no matter how small the chance.

Then there were the reports from former students around the world. A massive creature stalking the pyramids and dunes, whales washing ashore Europe with huge claw and bite marks.

In the Amazon, a large number of anacondas and other large creatures have begun to disappear, with those found usually being bitten in half. Logging crews have also been attacked by something they claim is controlling the forest itself to attack them.

In the jungles of Africa, people claim to have seen a large hive-like structure, hidden in the jungle. None of the teams sent to find it have returned.

These and many more things are what have been keeping Nezu up and awake, running on coffee and tea to get more results. He needed to know if Humanity was about to see a rise of a new type of predator.

"What do you mean it's gone?!" The Site director yelled as the researchers held their breath. "We were doing a routine inventory of the more tame anomalies, and SCP-1762 wasn't in its containment area. We've pulled thermal scans, as well as recordings from dozens of cameras, to see if someone took it. The box just disappeared."

The Site Director was fuming, not because 1762 had gone missing, no, it was safe in his opinion, but because if something was able to get in and take it, then anything inside could get outside.

"Bring the site to alert status. I want a full sweep, and I want to know where every living thing has been for the past week!" He gave out more orders before sending everyone out of his office as he slowly calmed down.

Now he had to report this mess, something he was NOT looking forward to.

-----------

Nezu wasn't the only one who'd noticed the sudden change in Carter's behavior. Katsumi was over the moon, she couldn't be happier now that Carter seemed to return her advances, even if she was still explosive.

Momo was also quite happy to spend more time with Carter both in and outside of training, but the sudden mood shift still had her confused. Although she had started to have romantic feelings about Carter, she was still very aware that he was much stronger than most pro heroes.

The sight of him beating Monoma withing an inch of his life was still very fresh on her mind, so despite taking advantage of the time she now had with him, she still stayed vigilant, just in case.

Others also noticed, Izuku and the guys had noticed that he was now seemingly more willing to go out and do things with them, normally he would refuse to go and do anything but now he'd gone out to eat and play at the arcade twice, TWICE! Carter never went anywhere or did anything with anyone, so this change was very abrupt and very strange to those who noticed, Izuku and Shoto being the biggest worriers.

The other girls also picked up on certain things, for one how much closer he'd suddenly gotten to Katsumi and Momo. Emery still kept her distance after the incident, but the others were happy to have someone else to talk to now, even if Katsumi and Momo were glued to his side.

Tsuyu and Ochako didn't share this sentiment however. Ochako had been the first one to meet him, he'd been cold and detached, as if he didn't see any of them as equals. His disregard for others feelings had been apparent, especially when he'd neglected Katsumi's feelings, and yelled at her and Tsuyu for bringing the subject up.

Tsuyu shared her sentiments. The memory of him snapping at them during the work studies still very fresh in her mind, and seeing how little restraint he showed to Monoma certainly didn't improve her opinions.

Carter for one couldn't care less. Everything was finally going his way, pieces that he'd been moving around for months were starting to fall into their places as he got ready for whatever was coming. He could feel it, the world itself was holding its breath, waiting for something to happen, even the hum of the earth had sped up, as if anxious.

That didn't bother him though, he was prepared. Everything was in place for the final show that would determine whether this world would be consumed, or liberated.

His time among these humans was drawing to a close, so he didn't mind humoring them as nothing could stop what he'd put into motion, the most they could do now was prepare for the end, and if the Foundations recent movements told him anything, they were going to fight to the last to protect as much of humanity as they could, not that it would matter.

He was already five steps ahead, waiting for the day he could leave this planet and continue his crusade among the stars, nothing would ever keep him down, not even death.
