After acquiring the cards, Nina and her group headed to the monster zone to familiarize themselves with their new abilities and adjust to them. Meanwhile, Ron began preparing the specialized potion for Ponzu, all while keeping a distant watch over Killua and Gon. By this point, his Observer's Intention Hatsu had reached 60% completion.
Killua was developing his Nen ability according to the framework Ron had suggested—first focusing on stimulating his own body with electricity to enhance his speed and reflexes. He had already explored this direction before, so the development progressed efficiently. Within just a few days, the ability had taken shape. Though not yet fully refined, it was already battle-ready.
"Godspeed."
His second ability was called Thunderbolt—a burst of lightning that could paralyze the target on impact. As for the remaining directions, Killua wasn't able to develop anything concrete yet; he would need more time.
Biscuit glanced in Killua's direction but said nothing. Gon looked at Killua and turned to Biscuit.
"Bisky, what kind of ability should I develop?"
"I can't answer that," she said, shaking her head. "The kind of ability you develop has to be something you decide for yourself. Gon, do you have a fighting style you particularly enjoy?"
"A fighting style I like...?" Gon fell into deep thought.
Time passed.
Half a month later, Gon and Killua had collected most of the designated cards—over 80 in total. As their game progress advanced, so did Ron's crystal ball, rising from 60% to 80%.
"At this rate," Ron thought, "once Gon finishes the dodgeball match with Razor and completes the quiz, they'll collect all 100 designated cards. The crystal orb's progress should reach completion."
Ron took out a potion—the one he had specifically formulated for Ponzu.
"Before giving this to her, I need to perform a divination."
He retrieved the Zodiac Rat card and channeled aura into it. Immediately, a burst of light surged from the card, and a line of text appeared in front of him. The wording was a bit awkward, like some sort of riddle or poetic phrase, but Ron could still interpret its meaning.
"No major problems. It means success is likely."
"When we leave Greed Island, I'll give Ponzu the potion."
With that, nearly all of Ron's goals on Greed Island had been fulfilled—aside from acquiring the Absorption Trait, but that too was nearing completion.
After Ron declined Gon's invitation to join the final phase, Gon ultimately found Hisoka and teamed up with Tsezguerra and the others. Together, they reached Soufrabi and triggered the pirate storyline, where they engaged Razor and his team in a fierce dodgeball battle.
After winning, Gon obtained the most critical card of all.
Soon after, the final quiz began—a segment clearly designed with Gon in mind. The questions revolved heavily around the storylines within the game, meaning only someone who had genuinely immersed themselves in the gameplay would be able to remember those details and answer correctly. Among all the players on Greed Island, only Gon and Killua had truly played the game seriously. The rest had all relied on shortcuts.
As such, this quiz effectively locked out the majority of players, leaving Gon the sole contender.
Ron stood quietly at the edge of a plain. "It's almost time." The crystal orb had already passed 90% progress.
Finally, the last question was answered. Unsurprisingly, Gon earned the highest score. As a result, the 0-number designated card—Ruler's Blessing—automatically appeared in his binder.
"We got it!" Gon jumped up in excitement. Killua smiled as well.
Biscuit watched the two of them. She wasn't too concerned with clearing Greed Island. What excited her more was the future potential of Gon and Killua.
"If nothing unexpected happens, Gon and Killua might become the most talented disciples I've ever had," she thought. "I wonder just how far they'll go. How strong they'll become."
She couldn't help but think of Ron again.
"To think that the Zoldyck family produced not one, but two prodigies in this generation. Ron's strength… I'm probably not even his match. And he's still so young. Truly remarkable, Gin might finally have a rival."
With the 0-number card in hand, Gon was invited into the castle. The creators of Greed Island's game appeared—everyone except Ging Freecss.
Gon was ecstatic. It wasn't the game clearance that excited him, but the chance to finally hear more about Ging from the game's developers.
Ron, however, didn't fully understand Gon's perspective. Gon had grown up on Whale Island, raised by his aunt Mito. His parents hadn't been around since he was a child. And yet Gon cared deeply about Ging, while showing no concern at all for his own birth mother.
Was that reasonable? No, Ron didn't think so.
Neither Ging Freecss nor Gon's mother had fulfilled their roles as parents. So why didn't Gon blame Ging? Why was he only cold toward his mother?
Gon had even said, "Aunt Mito is my real mother." But the problem was this—either Gon should reject both Ging and his mother or accept both. Accepting one and denying the other seemed blatantly double-standard.
Ron stood outside the castle. Starlight particles began to gather around him, flowing into the crystal orb.
Inside, Gon continued listening as the Greed Island developers shared more stories about Ging. Then came the final decision: after clearing the game, players could choose to bring three cards out of Greed Island. These cards would remain usable in the real world—much like the ark's Zodiac cards created by Ron. However, only three could be selected.
Gon made his choices quickly.
First, he disguised a Spell card as a Designated Card, enabling it to be taken out.
Then he brought out Paladin's Necklace. Once outside, the disguise on the card could be removed.
The third card he chose was a gift for Biscuit—a Blue Planet, a stunningly beautiful gemstone. Gon had promised her this long ago.
The only true regret was for Battera. He had spent an immense amount of money acquiring Greed Island consoles and hiring so many people, but before the game's end, the person he loved had already passed away.
