"Hyah!" shouted the two men, riding hard on the backs of their bays as they rushed toward the forest. Their hair streamed behind them in the breath of the Afterlife Cliffs, a chilling reminder that the edge was near. But when they arrived, it was already too late—the carriage had plunged off the cliffs, with no chance of survival. The moment he saw the carriage go off the cliff, Lǐ Xùyáng frozen in shocked. He then snapped out of it, rushed off the horse and darted towards the edge to jump after the carriage. Luò Wěi rushed after him and stopped him before he could jump. "LIÚ ZĀINÁN! NÁN NÁN!" he screamed my name, choking on grief, unable to stop the tears streaming down his face as Luò Wěi pulled him back from the edge of the cliff to stop him from going after the carriage. He could only cry as he watched the carriage disappeared into the abyss. "Lǐ Xùyáng! Calm down, you can't go after the carriage. She's already gone — you wouldn't want Madam Lǐ to lose all her children at the same time. Besides you still have to avenge herand punish those who killed her.
"How am I supposed to calm down when she died because of me? If I hadn't intentionally made her stab me and stopped my parents from marrying her into the Earl's manor, she would have been able to fight back and survive. She wouldn't have fallen into the abyss and died a tragic life. She wouldn't have drained her life force to perform the Fading Soul to save me, she wouldn't have lost her chance to say her final words to dad. She woudn't....Hic… hic…" he said as he sank to the floor, quiet weeping escaping her in soft, choked sobs, each breathe trembling with grief. Luò Wěi was at loss for as he didn't understand what he was on about. All he could do was help him up his horse and send him back to the General's manor for funeral preparation. They got on their bays and went back to the city. Soon enough the news of my death spread like wild fire across the city. A day after the incident, my big brother went to the Earl's and the very same shocking scene I had discovered. He took all my things including my dowry from the manor and declared all relations with the Earl's manor severed.
They were not allowed to mourn or hold a funeral for me. The news of this tension soon spread across the city, people started questioning the real reason behind my death. Two days after my funeral, the Earl's manor announced that their son was getting married and that I had agreed to it before I died. The moment Lǐ Xùyáng heard the news, he stormed off to the Earl's manor and turned in upside down. After he was done, he stood in front of the whole city and declared that the General's manor and the Earl's manor were now mortal enemies. This caused a big commotion in the city that was going to take months or even years to quiet down. Everyone was sure that with the Earl's manor close to the current ruling king of Mò Fēi Zhī Dì but everyone's opinion changed the day of Zhào Yǔchén marriage to his white moonlight. The General's manor received an imperial edict, titling Lǐ Xùyáng as the second supreme general to honor the general's sacrifice for the empire. He was the second supreme general but first to the current supreme general of Shén Mì Zhī Dì country.
This meant he had control of about a million soldiers while the 1st supreme general can only control 500 000 soldiers. This imperial edict made him the most powerful man in the country, that even the king feared him. With him as the supreme general and the 4 out of 5 top clans supporting him, he was unstoppable. His goal was to win the war and close the gates before the supreme general of Dìyù surfaced into our world or calamity shall befall it.
