Alex didn't waste a second.
He landed on his feet, eyes sharp.
"Spread out! Don't give it a single target!" he shouted.
May dashed to the left, rolling under a swinging leg and stabbing the joints with her pipe. The demon screeched, stumbling.
Ward pumped another shotgun round into its head.
"Come on! Fall already!"
The spider demon turned and spat a glob of green acid. Ward barely jumped aside. The acid melted a car door behind him.
"Okay— that's new!" he yelled.
Skye kept moving, taking aim.
"I'll distract its eyes!"
She fired several shots straight into the cluster of glowing red eyes on its head. The demon flinched and swung its tail blindly.
Lady smirked and fired another rocket.
"BOOM number two!"
The explosion knocked the demon sideways. Two legs snapped under its weight.
"Alex! Finish it!" Coulson shouted.
Alex's aura flared—dark mist swirling around him.
He dashed forward, faster than the demon could react. One clean strike—
SHHHINK!
Alex cut through the demon's neck. Its head separated and crashed to the ground. The body twitched, then dissolved into ash and purple smoke.
Ward exhaled loudly.
"That was… easier than I thought."
Lady raised a brow.
"That wasn't the boss."
Everyone turned toward the building Lady had pointed at earlier.
The walls cracked.
A deep rumble shook the plaza.
Something huge moved inside—heavy, slow, and angry.
Simmons clung to Fitz's arm.
"Maybe we should… retreat and plan?"
Lady holstered her launcher.
"No time. If that thing grows more, the whole district could fall."
Alex glanced at the team.
"You all did great. Now go back and return to the van."
He stepped forward and added, firm but calm,
"From here on, it's just Lady and me."
Coulson hesitated, then nodded.
"I think that's a good idea. We'll regroup and be ready if you need us."
Ward and the others clearly didn't like leaving the fight, but Coulson was the boss. They fell back, moving carefully the way they came, leaving Alex and Lady alone in the ruined plaza.
Lady tilted her head.
"You sure about this? That thing isn't a joke."
Alex cracked his neck, eyes locked on the massive Hell Vanguard as it dragged its axe across the concrete.
"Now I can actually use my true powers," he muttered to himself, a smirk forming. "Everything until now was just warm-up."
Dark energy began to leak off his body—thick, heavy, dangerous.
Lady raised a brow.
"Oh? We're done playing?"
Alex's aura flared like a storm of shadows.
"One shot," he said quietly.
"That's all I'll need."
The Hell Vanguard roared, stomping toward them—each step shaking the ground.
Alex gripped his sword with both hands.
He bent his legs slightly.
And disappeared.
SHOOM—
In the blink of an eye, Alex appeared behind the Hell Vanguard. His sword was already sheathed. He didn't even look back.
A thin, clean line glowed across the demon's chest.
Lady blinked.
"What the—"
KRA-THOOOM!
The giant demon exploded into black ash, scattering into the wind.
Alex dusted off his hands.
"I told you."
Lady stared… and then laughed.
"Okay, Devil Hunter. That was badass."
But the street rumbled again.
Five more Hell Vanguards crawled out of the darkness—bigger, meaner, and angrier than the last.
Alex rolled his shoulders.
"Good. Now I can actually have some fun."
Lady reloaded her rocket launcher with a grin.
"Try not to kill them all before I get a shot, okay?"
Alex smirked.
"No promises."
They leapt back into the fight—this time, with Alex unleashing everything he'd been holding back.
One of the new Hell Vanguards charged first, swinging its huge axe.
Alex ducked low and cut through its legs. The demon collapsed, and Lady blew its head apart with a rocket.
Four left.
Another one leapt high into the air, trying to crush them both.
Alex grabbed Lady by the waist and jumped back right before the demon landed, cracking the ground.
Lady grinned.
"Nice save."
Alex drew his sword again.
"Stay sharp. They're smarter."
A Vanguard tried to flank from the side. Alex sprinted, slicing its arm off in a single strike. Lady fired at the exposed chest—BOOM—turning it to ash.
Three left.
One roared, electricity sparking around its blade. It swung at Alex fast—almost too fast. Alex blocked, but the force pushed him back a few steps.
Lady whistled.
"That one hits harder."
Alex tightened his grip.
"I like a challenge."
He vanished again—appearing above the demon's head. One downward slash split the monster from crown to stomach.
Two left.
The last pair attacked together, fighting like a team. They rushed from both sides, blades aimed for his neck.
Alex looked annoyed.
"Okay. Enough."
His aura exploded outward—dark energy tearing up the ground. The two demons froze, held in place by the pressure.
Alex walked between them, calm and steady.
One swing left.
One swing right.
Both demons split in half.
Lady lowered her launcher slowly.
"You really weren't kidding."
Alex let his aura fade.
"That's all of them."
But then—
The building in front of them cracked open completely.
A giant figure stepped out—easily two stories tall. Black armor. Burning horns. A sword bigger than a car.
Lady's eyes widened.
"That… is the real boss."
The demon roared, shaking windows nearby.
Alex smirked and looked excited.
"Finally. A real fight."
Lady loaded another explosive round.
"Don't die on me, Devil Hunter."
Alex stepped forward, shadows rising around him again.
"Don't worry," he said.
"I haven't even started yet."
The giant demon swung its massive sword down at them.
Alex pushed Lady aside and blocked the swing with his own blade. The shockwave shattered windows around them.
Lady coughed.
"Okay, that thing is strong."
Alex slid back only a little. His eyes narrowed.
"I've fought stronger."
The demon lifted its sword again, this time sweeping sideways. Alex jumped over the blade and kicked the demon's helmet, forcing it to take a step back.
Lady pointed at the glowing cracks on its chest armor.
"Hit there! That's the weak point!"
