Alex nodded and rushed in quickly.
The demon tried to crush him with its huge hand, but he slid under it and cut at the glowing crack. Sparks flew, and the demon roared in pain.
Lady fired another rocket right into the same spot.
The explosion pushed the demon back a few steps, but it didn't fall.
"It's tough," Lady said, breathing harder.
The demon suddenly stomped the ground.
A shockwave blasted both of them away. Lady fell and rolled across the street. Alex dug his sword into the ground to stop himself.
The demon charged toward Lady, sword raised to finish her.
Alex's eyes widened.
"Oh no you don't!"
He sprinted—faster than before—and jumped straight onto the demon's arm. He ran up it, slicing pieces of armor off as he went.
Lady scrambled back to her feet, coughing.
"Alex—watch out!"
The demon swung its other arm, hitting Alex mid-run. He flew through a wall and into a shop. Dust and bricks fell around him.
Lady's eyes filled with panic.
"ALEX!"
The demon turned toward her again, lifting its sword for another strike.
Before it hit—
Dark purple energy exploded out of the ruined shop.
Alex walked out slowly, eyes glowing red. His aura was heavier than ever.
He cracked his neck.
"Okay. That really hurt."
The demon roared at him and tried to crush him again.
But Alex vanished—appearing right above the demon's head. He grabbed the demon's horns and yanked its head down.
Lady aimed quickly and fired another rocket.
It hit the exposed chest again. The armor shattered completely this time, revealing the shining demon heart inside.
Alex's grin widened.
"That's the target."
He raised his sword, aura swirling around the blade like a storm.
The demon swung wildly in panic, but Alex was already in motion.
He dashed forward.
A single, direct strike—
KRACK—BOOM!
His sword pierced clean through the heart. The demon froze, its eyes dimming. Then its entire body cracked and exploded into ash and fire.
Alex landed lightly, breathing hard but still smiling.
Lady watched him with wide eyes.
"You are way too dangerous."
Alex sheathed his sword.
"And you shoot rockets very well."
Lady smirked and bumped his shoulder.
"Teamwork, Devil Hunter."
Alex looked around the destroyed street.
More distant roars echoed across the city.
He sighed and stretched his neck.
"Looks like we're not done."
Lady reloaded again.
"So… round three?"
Alex nodded.
"Round three."
Alex and Lady moved through the broken street. Cars were smashed, and buildings burned in the distance. The sky was dark with demon smoke.
Alex pointed toward the loudest roar.
"There. Let's go."
They ran together. As they reached the next block, three flying demons swooped down. Their wings were sharp like blades.
One demon dive-bombed them.
Lady shot it mid-air. It exploded into black dust.
Alex jumped up and cut the second demon in half. The pieces hit the ground and burned away.
The third demon tried to grab Lady. She rolled and fired two quick shots. Alex finished it by stabbing through its head.
Lady blew smoke off her gun.
"At this rate, demons should be extinct again."
Alex gave a small laugh.
"Let's make sure."
They continued. A loud crash shook the road. A big demon — twice the size of the last one — stepped out from a fallen building. Chains hung from its body, and fire burned in its mouth.
Lady frowned.
"That one looks worse."
Alex tightened his grip on his sword.
"We take it down fast."
The demon charged. Alex stepped forward and blocked the first hit, but the force pushed him back. Lady tried shooting the demon's head, but the bullets bounced off the metal plates.
"We need an opening!" she shouted.
Alex nodded. He dashed around the demon, cutting the chains to slow it down.
The demon swung a heavy fist. Alex barely dodged. The punch crushed the road into a crater.
Lady fired a grenade at its legs. The explosion made the demon stumble. Its armor cracked near the knee.
Alex rushed in and sliced the weak point, making the demon drop to one knee.
Lady shot inside its open mouth.
Boom.
Flames burst out of the demon's back. It collapsed and dissolved into ash.
Lady wiped sweat from her forehead.
"Okay… that worked."
Alex looked around again. More roars, more demons… everywhere.
He took a deep breath.
"We need backup. Let's meet up with the others."
Lady reloaded one more time.
"Yeah. I'd like someone else to shoot for a while."
Alex and Lady headed back toward the van. They kept their weapons ready. There were still demons in the streets, but fewer than before.
When they reached the van, Coulson, Ward, May, Fitz, and Simmons were already inside, watching the city from a safe spot.
Fitz opened the door fast.
"You two are alive! Good!"
Simmons sighed with relief.
"Thank goodness…"
Alex stepped in and looked around.
"Where's Nicole?"
Before anyone could answer, the back doors of the van opened.
Nicole jumped out, holding a large case with a proud smile.
"Sorry it took some time. But I made what you asked for."
She opened the case. Inside were two special guns and a long black rifle. Metal parts glowed faintly like they had power inside.
Lady's eyes lit up.
"Ohhh… I like these already."
Alex picked up the rifle and tested the grip.
"This is perfect."
Nicole tapped a button on the side of one gun. The barrels shifted slightly.
"These can fire normal bullets or anti-demon rounds. Just flip the switch."
Ward whistled.
"That is awesome."
Nicole wasn't done. She held up two small glowing magazines.
"I also made special ammo clips. You can pour your demon energy into them. That way, even humans can use the Devil Arms at full power."
Alex took one magazine and let a little of his demon energy flow into it. The glow became stronger.
He handed it to Ward.
"Try it."
Ward aimed at a thick piece of concrete rubble nearby and fired.
Instead of a normal bullet, a swirling energy shot blasted out — like a laser bullet.
BOOM!
The rubble was destroyed instantly, leaving smoke and dust in the air.
