Chapter 35 - THE BROKEN SEAL

🌑 Chapter 35 — The Broken Seal

The first thing Ivy noticed was the silence.

Not ordinary silence.

The forest had gone completely still.

No insects.

No rustling leaves.

Not even the distant call of a night bird.

Ivy stood beside the lake, staring toward the mountains. The violet glow in her eyes slowly faded, but the strange pressure in her chest remained.

Jayden noticed immediately.

"Ivy?"

She didn't answer.

Jake came running through the trees a moment later, Aslam close behind him.

"Did you feel that?" Jake asked.

Ivy nodded.

"The seal."

Jake's face hardened.

"It's weakening."

Jayden stepped closer. "How much time do we have?"

Jake looked toward the dark horizon.

"I don't know."

Aslam folded her arms. "Then we find out."

The Ancient Library

Hours later, everyone gathered beneath the pack house.

Jake led them through a hidden doorway behind the old armory.

Ivy stared at the enormous underground library.

Shelves covered every wall, filled with ancient books and scrolls. Strange symbols were carved into the stone floor.

"I've lived here for years," Jayden said, looking around. "How did I never know this existed?"

Jake gave him a faint smile.

"Most Alphas don't."

They reached the center of the room.

There, beneath a glass case, rested a small silver pendant.

Ivy froze.

She recognized it immediately.

"I've seen that before."

Jake carefully opened the case.

"It belonged to our mother."

Ivy reached toward it.

The moment her fingers touched the pendant, the entire room shook.

Books fell from shelves.

The candles went out.

And Ivy saw something.

A memory.

Twelve Years Ago

She was eight again.

Standing in the forest.

Her brother was shouting.

Their parents were fighting desperately against shadows surrounding them.

But this time, Ivy saw something she hadn't remembered before.

Her mother was holding the same silver pendant.

She pressed it into Ivy's hands.

"Whatever happens, don't let them take this."

Young Ivy cried.

"Mommy, what's happening?"

Her mother knelt and touched her forehead.

"One day, you'll understand."

Then everything went dark.

Ivy gasped and stumbled backward.

Jayden caught her.

"What did you see?"

She stared at the pendant.

"My mother gave this to me."

Jake's expression changed.

"That's impossible."

"Why?"

"Because after the attack, it disappeared."

Ivy looked down.

The pendant was glowing.

A faint purple light traveled through its center.

Jake whispered,

"It came back to you."

The Message

Suddenly, words appeared across the wall.

THE KEEPER SHALL CHOOSE.

Everyone stared.

Then another line appeared.

POWER WITHOUT CHOICE BECOMES DARKNESS.

Ivy stepped forward.

"What does that mean?"

An elder slowly approached.

"It means your power isn't what decides your fate."

He looked into her eyes.

"You do."

The wall went dark.

But before the light disappeared completely, one final message appeared.

THE BLOOD OF THE KEEPER WILL OPEN THE GATE.

Jake's face went pale.

"The blood..."

Ivy understood.

"You mean me."

Jake shook his head.

"No."

His eyes moved toward Xander, who had been sleeping upstairs.

"The prophecy mentioned the Keeper's bloodline."

Everyone went silent.

Jayden's expression hardened.

"You're saying Xander could be involved?"

Jake nodded reluctantly.

"Possibly."

Jayden immediately stepped toward the exit.

"No one is touching my son."

Ivy grabbed his hand.

"They won't."

Her eyes glowed.

"Because we're going to stop them first."

Somewhere in the City

James sat alone in the abandoned warehouse.

His hands trembled.

The hooded man stood behind him.

"The seal has weakened," the stranger said.

James swallowed.

"I know."

"And Ivy has discovered the truth."

James looked up.

"Then leave her alone."

The stranger laughed softly.

"You still care about her."

James didn't answer.

"You were chosen because your blood carries a fragment of the ancient power."

James's eyes widened.

"What?"

The stranger leaned closer.

"You aren't her enemy, James."

A pause.

"You're the key."

James stared at him.

"What are you talking about?"

The stranger smiled.

"Ask yourself why your power always reacts when Ivy is near."

James remembered the courtyard.

The trembling earth.

Ivy's glowing eyes.

The strange pull between them.

His face went pale.

"What did you do to me?"

"Nothing."

The stranger turned away.

"You were born this way."

Back at the Pack House

Ivy stood beside Xander's bedroom door.

He was asleep peacefully.

Jayden joined her.

"He doesn't deserve any of this," he whispered.

"No."

Ivy watched her son sleep.

"But neither did we."

Jayden looked at her.

She turned toward him.

"I'm not running anymore."

He took her hand.

"Then neither am I."

Behind them, Jake appeared at the end of the hallway.

"I found something else."

Ivy frowned.

"What?"

Jake held up an old photograph.

It showed their parents standing beside several unfamiliar wolves.

And in the background...

stood the hooded man.

Ivy's blood ran cold.

"That's him."

Jake nodded.

"He knew our parents."

"Who is he?"

Jake's jaw tightened.

"I don't know."

He turned the photograph over.

There was writing on the back.

When the Keeper awakens, the betrayer will return.

Ivy stared at the words.

Then she noticed something else.

A name.

Written underneath.

Elias.

Jake whispered,

"That's our father's Beta."

Ivy looked toward the dark window.

"Then maybe..."

Her eyes began glowing purple again.

"...we've finally found the person who started all of this."

Far beyond the pack territory, a figure stood beneath the moon.

Elias smiled.

"They're getting close."

He looked toward the distant mountains.

"Good."

His eyes briefly flashed silver.

"Let them come."
