Walking over to the two now disabled cybermen, yes, I say disabled because even if the brain is dead, these things might be able to scavenge a new brain like the ones seen in the episode `The Pandorica Opens`.
Once close enough, I took my wrench and began a scan. Not surprisingly, yes, these cybermen used the crew's brains. I know this because I found brain scans in the ship's system. Comparing the two scans confirms that these two cybermen were indeed crew members at one point.
Sighing, I look at Alice, who looks at the two cybermen with what I can only describe as pity. It's understandable since no one should go through the process that makes them cybermen; the pain they must have gone through would be horrendous, which is probably why all cybermen have emotional and pain inhibitors. To prevent insanity from happening, at least these two can rest in peace.
"We should put a stop to this entire thing, Mechanic, it's beyond inhumane" hearing her word I move towards the captains chair to see if I can engage some self-destruct, unfortunately it need both access from the bridge and engineering meaning that one of us has to go down to the bottom of the ship to activate it from that side. At the same time, someone stays here to activate it from this side, it's probably to stop someone who starts a mutiny from just blowing the ship up if they fail, but still, it means someone needs to go down and get past an unknown number of cybermen to get to engineering.
After thinking about it, I looked at Alice. "I need to go to engineering, and you need to stay here. You will activate the self-destruct when I message you through the ship's coms. I have already pre-set it to 10 minutes; that will be enough time to return to the TARDIS, understand?" She nodded, indicating she understood what I wanted her to do.
Making my way to the elevator, I use my sonic wrench to open the doors I had previously locked, making my way inside. Looking at the buttons with letters, I select the one with the `E` for engineering. However, it does not lead directly there it leads to the floor that it's on, which is why I will have to get past all those Cybermen that are undoubtedly there since I doubt the one who made them was unaware of how the ships power worked it all came from engineering, without that power his creations would not be able to make more of themselves, since I doubt that these cybermen have any tech from the normal Cyberman.
This is an advantage since when I scanned the two from the bridge, they did not have internal power generation; they had batteries. This means they must recharge; despite looking more elegant, they would be considered more primitive than ordinary Cybermen. Food for thought, I wonder how the Cybermen would react to meeting the inferior versions of themselves.
While I was thinking, the elevator had already started heading to my intended destination. Just as I finished my thought, the elevator door started opening, and what greeted me was an empty corridor, yet I still kept vigilant.
Exiting the elevator, I start making my way towards engineering. As I reached the halfway point, the doors I had passed started to open, and Cybermen began walking into the corridor. Not waiting, I ran toward engineering. I had no plans to stay there; I had to hurry and had no time to mess around. If the Cybermen had complete control of this ship, it would be disastrous for the colony it had initially left.
I ran all the way, not looking back. When I got to the door, I instantly used my sonic to open it before quickly entering. When I looked around, I saw a man waiting. "Well, hello there, stranger. I thought I had everyone on the ship to embrace the accent and become a perfect life form." Hearing his words, I stayed silent, knowing he had more to say, just like every villain.
And speak he does: "Strange you do not exist according to the ship's mainframe, how interesting, no matter, you will embrace the ascension all the same." I can only scoff at his delusion that I would do as he wishes. While this wannabe talks like any villain who believes he has already won, I am looking for the console that activates this side of the self-destruct.
Much to my annoyance, it just happens to be behind the wannabe. I do not waste my time, so I start formulating a plan for my actions. While thinking of my plan, I saw that the Cybermen had begun to file into the room.
I move quickly, pointing my Sonic at the console to the scientist's right. It explodes, causing the man to flinch, which in turn causes the cybermen to stop before they move to check on him. This is just what you expect of something made by a narcissistic man; they consistently prioritise their creator's safety over everything else.
Using this distraction, I bolt to the console behind the man. Once there, I activate the com, yelling now through it as I engage this side. Once the announcement of the self-destruct is broadcast, I lock the console to prevent it from being stopped. By this point, the man has already realised what I have done, and he orders his creation to get me. Luckily, just like normal cybermen, these things are heavy, meaning they are slow. However, later iterations fixed this issue for the later versions of the Cybermen.
Making use of their slow pace, I managed to get past the Cybermen without being touched, heading straight to the door before they could even process what happened. I was out the door. Luckily for me, the Cybermen that had previously been in the corridor had already come into engineering, so seeing no obstacle, I ran, not looking back at all, heading straight to the elevator.
Once the elevator is in sight, I take my Sonic wrench and point it at the door, using the Sonic to open the door for my arrival. Once I reach the elevator, the door is open, so I quickly enter while hitting the button corresponding to the bridge. Looking back as the door closes, I can see all the Cybermen that are chasing me. Luckily, they are too slow, and the doors close way before they can even get close.
I sigh as the elevator rises toward the bridge, with only one thought in mind: What is it with me finding places with crazy scientists who turn their kind into monsters? First, the children, now this—it's ridiculous. After this, I need a nice place to relax, maybe head to a beach somewhere.
Not long later, the elevator arrives at the bridge. When I arrive, I am greeted by Alice pointing the gun I gave her at me or, well, the elevator. However, after seeing me, she lowers it:" We should get out of here right now, Mechanic. We've got 6 minutes left to get out." Hearing her words, I quickly grabbed her hand and bolted back into the elevator before pushing the crew quarters button.
Once the elevator arrives, I exit with her before pointing my sonic wrench at it, deactivating it, so the Cybermen can't get to the bridge. Once done, I ran towards my TARDIS, pulling Alice along. When we get to the TARDIS, we have 2 minutes not wasting time. I open the door, heading in, closing it behind Alice once she is also in, before heading to the console and engaging the dematerialisation.
I quickly get the TARDIS to rematerialise far enough from the ship that it would not be caught in the explosion before using the screen on the console to make sure the ship does indeed explode. Alice also joins me in watching it explode. Thankfully, the ship does indeed explode.
"So, where to now, Mechanic?" Hearing her, I shook my head after seeing the Cybermen. She is still willing to follow me on my adventures. Somewhere, someplace is less likely to be dangerous, and maybe some time in Earth's history would be less likely to be filled with something like Cybermen, I hope. "
Not waiting for a reply, I move to set us off, setting the destination for someplace relaxing. I could put a date in myself, but it seems more interesting if I do not know the destination, just what I am looking for. Ada likes it that way as well, considering how every time she gets to decide, she seems excited about it. With that done, we're off to our next destination, with me hoping that it won't be as dangerous as this one was.
