He set his hands on the table. "Madelyn, I have accorded you a form of respect. I ask that you do the same and tell the truth. You are not a phantom blown by chanced winds, neither a traveller pleading proper passage. There is a tale, and I must be privy to it." He tapped his finger twice to call her attention. "I believe I have earned that much."
Silence. She remained as silent as before, setting her fingers loose on themselves.
Brand was thoroughly irritated. "Bloody speak now, or I shall make certain you are arrested and never made to see the light of day."
He could very much make true his words. He had as much authority.
Silence still.
"Very well," He rose to his feet. She had made her decision. "I shall have one of my men remand you and at the docks, you shall be arrested. Then to determine the greatness of your crime for proper punishment, I shall seek out your family."
