Brand's attention was called to the door as it opened to reveal the stowaway, Stephen and his wife, Rose, who was in the process of a bow before, possibly remembering that all formalities were dismissed from The Rescuer. She withdrew quickly to stand behind her husband.
"Miss Stanhope, Brand." Stephen announced. He didn't have to.
Searching for the kindest tone he possessed, Brand blinked consciously and said, "Enter."
No one moved. She didn't move. He waited.
Rose moved from behind her husband and carefully urged her forward, pushing her slightly into his cabin.
"Thank you, Stephen." Brand dismissed as soon as she was through the door.
With a nod, Stephen stepped back. Pulling his wife along, he closed the door.
