Chapter 21 - suspicion

Zeki observed the devastated battlefield, still alert to the lifeless body of the Three-Eyed Monster. He was now going after the Serpent Chief. Suddenly, the Serpent Chief caught his attention, concentrating energy in the form of a giant mouth aimed directly at Zeki.

It's no longer worth staying here, she thought.

"This is the end, human," the Serpent Chief hissed in a predatory tone. "This will surely put an end to this fight."

The energy mouth was launched at high speed toward Zeki. He quickly raised a psychic barrier to defend himself. The impact was tremendous, and even with his barrier, Zeki was thrown far away, landing heavily on the ground.

The Serpent Chief, realizing her attack hadn't been completely effective, saw that continuing the fight was too risky. She decided the best course was to retreat and report the incident.

"I'd better fall back. I hope the Spider is still alive. I can't afford to die here."

She quickly slithered to find the Spider, who was still fighting Isadora. The Spider was surprised by the sudden order to retreat.

"Why are we fleeing? Where is the Three-Eyed Monster?"

"Wait, if you're here, then what happened to Zeki? Was he defeated?" Isadora said, worried.

"Spider, this battle is no longer worth it. The human we were facing was stronger than I thought. It won't be long before they find us."

Isadora ran toward them.

"Do you think I'm going to let you escape?" she shouted furiously, activating her special maximum enhancement technique.

Isadora, at high speed, concentrated a punch, impressing the Serpent Chief with her speed.

"I don't have time for this," the Serpent Chief thought, worried.

She released a poisonous gas toward Isadora, forcing her to retreat, but Isadora held her breath and advanced.

"We lost the Three-Eyed Monster. The risk is too high. Let's find the Queen and retreat," the Serpent Chief said, firm and pragmatic.

Reluctantly, the Spider followed the order, casting one last disdainful look at Isadora. As the Serpent burrowed underground along with the Spider, Isadora screamed in frustration.

"Damn it!"

Isadora failed to land her punch, allowing them to escape. She was furious.

"Damn it, if I jump in, I'll be at a disadvantage underground. I'd better go after Zeki."

The battlefield lay in ruins, covered in debris and dust from the explosion caused by the Serpent Chief. Zeki, not seriously injured, got up without much difficulty. His shirt was torn, but he maintained his calm. Isadora, determined and frustrated, moved toward him.

"Zeki, what happened? I almost thought you had lost!" she said, irritated and defiant.

"I thought my psychic force field would hold up. I guess I underestimated them," Zeki replied, calm and resolute.

"That's embarrassing. We should have brought Gustavo and Bia. You know this is shameful. The situation is terrible!" Isadora said, angrily and arrogantly.

"Look, don't panic because that won't help. I was thinking of reporting to the guild, but after today's failure, it's better if I don't report anything," Zeki said, looking at the situation around him and adjusting his torn shirt.

"Fine. My father wouldn't like this if he found out, Zeki. But next time, take things more seriously," Isadora replied, challengingly, but beginning to understand.

"I understand, but in a way, this was good. The Serpent made a hole in the ground that leads somewhere. I think we should leave. Let's leave the details to the guild in case they find out."

"So you had a Plan B. Clever. Well, I'm leaving now, I'm already very sweaty," Isadora said, resigned but with a determined tone.

After the exhausting battle, Zeki and Isadora headed to their homes.

Before going home, Zeki stopped by a store to buy a shirt, since his was ruined. After that, he arrived at his house and entered. His mother was on the sofa watching TV. He greeted her and quickly went to lie down on his bed after such an exhausting day.
