The morning sunlight streamed softly into Damon's bedroom. Jessica stirred slowly, blinking her eyes open to find herself tucked into Damon's chest. His arm was draped securely around her waist, and his steady breathing tickled the back of her neck.
For a moment, she stayed still, letting herself soak it all in; the quiet, the warmth, the comfort of belonging. It all still felt new and it made her heart swell.
Then the sound of the doorknob being turned broke the silence. When the door didn't open, a loud knock sounded on the door. "Daddy! Jessica!" Emily called, pounding against the door.
"Oh, God!" Damon groaned still half-asleep.
Jessica laughed as she slowly got off the bed and went to open the door.
She'd barely opened the door before Emily shot inside the bedroom and leapt onto the bed.
Damon groaned, but Jessica laughed as Emily crawled straight on top of her father.
"I couldn't sleep anymore," Emily announced breathlessly. "I'm too happy!"
