The house was quiet when Damon and Jessica got back from Sabrina's wedding. But the moment they stepped into the dining room, they both stopped in surprise.
At the big dining table, Emily sat with Lilian. A plate of rice and chicken was in front of her, and she was swinging her legs under the chair as she ate.
When Emily looked up and saw them, her fork dropped with a clatter.
"Daddy! Jessica!" she shrieked happily, jumping down from her seat. She ran straight to them, her arms wide.
Damon bent low, catching her in his arms, while Jessica leaned close so Emily could hug her too. Emily squealed, hugging them both at once.
"I missed you so much!" she said, her voice high and full of joy. "I'm so happy to be back home!"
Jessica's throat tightened as she hugged the little girl, who was soon to be her first child. "We missed you too, sweetheart."
