'H–he used his Alpha tone on me? For the very first time?' Her heart stung like a thousand needles. What has come over him? The thought echoed through her mind as she stepped into the elevator, her pulse thudding violently against her ribs.
Her hand slammed against the cold metal wall of the elevator, the impact resounding with a dull clang. "Damn it!" she hissed, her sharp nails almost digging into her palm as she clenched her fist. Her sapphire eyes glimmered with fury, and before she could stop herself, a low, vicious growl ripped from her throat — the primal sound of wounded pride.
The elevator dinged softly as it reached the 10th floor. The polished doors slid open with a whisper, revealing the golden-lit hallway beyond. She inhaled deeply, fixing her hair and smoothing her dress, forcing a counterfeit smile onto her face — one that hid her bruised ego beneath a mask of elegance.
