Chapter 538 - Chapter 535

As a member of the birdkin, Amelia hadn't flown in the blue sky for a long time since her wings were cut off. The hot air balloon last time was merely an ascent; the presence of the basket prevented her from feeling the joy of being in the sky.

Lucas also knew what was on the girl's mind. He often saw her sitting foolishly and gazing at the sky. Perhaps this was a lingering regret in the girl's heart.

"Tony, prepare a parachute and a hang glider," Lucas turned his head and ordered.

"Yes," Tony said respectfully, immediately turning his head to order the logistics personnel to bring them over.

"Master, are you... are you really going to fly?" Annie was a little nervous, her palms sweating. She was a bit worried that an accident might happen.

"Don't worry, nothing will happen. I'll take you up for a flight in a bit too," Lucas said with a light laugh, reaching out to pinch the fox-eared girl's cheek.

"O-okay." Annie's cheeks flushed slightly, her brown eyes shining. She was worried, but she also wanted to try it.

"Elisa, do you want to go up later too?" Lucas turned his head to look at the elf.

"N-no, I'm fine." Elisa quickly waved her hands, her body involuntarily taking a step back. She was a little scared, but it was more out of shyness. She had seen how the soldiers used the hang glider; two people had to be layered one on top of the other. It was simply too embarrassing.

"Alright then." Lucas shrugged his shoulders. He didn't mind; it was normal for some people to have a fear of heights and so on.

"Master, everything is ready," Tony said, walking over with a parachute.

"Good, give it to me." Lucas took the parachute and put it on. He beckoned to Amelia and said, "Come here."

"Mm." Amelia walked over curiously, turned around, and moved closer to Lucas with her back to him. This was what she had seen the soldiers do. "Quite proactive, aren't you," Lucas smiled slightly, squatted down a bit, and brought the girl into his arms. He buckled the harness around the girl's waist and, with both arms, carried Amelia towards the hang glider.

With the help of the logistics personnel, Lucas was quickly secured to the hang glider. The glider's harness was also buckled around both of them, so that their weight in the air would be supported by the glider.

"Lord, you're all set," A logistics soldier said after checking three times.

"Good." Lucas lowered his head slightly, resting his chin near the girl's neck, and said with a breathy voice, "We're about to start. Are you nervous?"

"N-no, not nervous." Amelia's cheeks flushed.

"That's good." Lucas looked up at the blue sky beyond the cliff, took a deep breath, and began to run with all his might.

In five seconds, he reached the edge of the cliff. With a push of his legs, Lucas was airborne. The hang glider suddenly dropped for a few seconds, and then, using the airflow from the momentum, it began to fly.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh…

The wind blew against his face. Lucas's heart suddenly beat faster for a few moments, feeling as if it would jump out of his chest. This was a natural physical reaction, and then his heart rate slowed down.

"This feeling of not having my feet on the ground is really something to get used to," Lucas said with a light laugh, though his expression was full of interest.

"Father, this is flying!" Amelia waved her hands and feet in the air and shouted with adorable excitement, "I'm flying! I'm really flying!"

"Yes, you are. Look how small Sedona City is," Lucas replied gently, pointing with one finger towards the distant Sedona City, while his other hand controlled the direction of the hang glider.

"Father, I want to go over there," Amelia held onto the glider's crossbar with one hand and pointed to a small lake within the Forbidden Mountain Range.

"Alright, let's go over," Lucas nodded and immediately steered the hang glider in that direction.

Soon, the hang glider was flying over the small lake. The two of them could see many wild animals drinking water, including deer, wild goats, and more.

"The weather has completely warmed up. The animals are all out to forage," Lucas scanned the area. He saw that new shoots had sprouted from the grassland, and some trees were covered in green buds.

"Father, fly up, fly higher!" Amelia shouted, waving her hands.

"Alright," Lucas replied. The way the girl was acting now was how a teenage girl should be. He couldn't help but control the glider to climb higher.

A hang glider has no power of its own and must rely on external forces to ascend. In clear weather, by controlling the flight direction against the wind, the principles of aerodynamics allow the glider to enter thermal air currents and climb to the height of that day's cumulus clouds, typically a dew point altitude of two to four thousand meters.

Lucas controlled the hang glider to climb continuously, reaching an altitude of about three thousand meters. With a turn, he could clearly see the air force base and the fox-eared girl waving at him.

"Amelia, how is this altitude?" Lucas lowered his head and asked in the girl's ear.

"It's... it's great..." Amelia burst into tears. She spread her arms and legs out in a star shape, feeling the wind sweep across her cheeks. It had been too long since she had felt this sensation.

"Don't cry, this is a good thing," Lucas could hear the girl's choked sobs and comforted her, "This hang glider... I will teach you how to use it, and you can fly by yourself in the future."

"Really?" Amelia turned her head abruptly, her profile facing Lucas, her green eyes brimming with tears, her nose running.

"Really," Lucas couldn't help but laugh. He took a tissue out of his pocket and began to wipe her face, saying, "But, you have to learn how to control this hang glider before you're allowed to come out for a test flight."

There was a large wooden shed in the air force base used for flight training. Ropes were tied to the beams, and people and hang gliders were suspended in mid-air to practice. Only after passing the exam would they be allowed to test fly from the flight platform.

This was an otherworldly version of an air force academy. The reason no air force soldier had died to date was because of this suspended training method. If the girl wanted to use the hang glider alone, she would have to pass the assessment.

"Okay," Amelia nodded emphatically and wrinkled her cute nose. She felt much more relaxed now. She could fly in the blue sky even without wings; it was truly incredible.

She wondered if her elder sister would be happy if she knew about this. For her companions who couldn't fly, this hang glider was truly a divine artifact.
