Lucas and Amelia flew in the sky for twenty minutes, taking in the surrounding scenery. It opened up their hearts and minds, making them feel much more relaxed.
"Let's go back," Lucas said softly. He had just remembered something he needed to ask Tony.
"Mm," Amelia nodded obediently, the corners of her mouth turned up in a radiant smile. In the future, even if her wings took a long time to fully grow back, she wouldn't have to worry. Now she had a hang glider to fly with.
Lucas glanced at the soldiers who were still training in the sky and couldn't help but nod. Their flying skills were quite proficient. With a few more tactical drills, they would be ready for missions.
In fact, during World War II on Earth, Germany had used gliders in combat. These were much larger than hang gliders, but both operated on the same principle, just with different materials. Compared to hang gliders, gliders could carry more people and played a significant role in surprise attacks during WWII.
However, a glider's landing was more like a crash landing, not as good as a hang glider's. If things went wrong, you could lose your life. That was why Lucas had chosen to use hang gliders instead of gliders.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh…
Lucas controlled the hang glider to descend towards the air force base. Using wind resistance and other factors, he landed easily in the open area in the middle of the base.
"Master, that was amazing! Truly amazing!" Annie came running over, her fox tail wagging, jumping up and down as she shouted, "It's really incredible!"
"It'll be your turn soon," Lucas said with a light laugh, reaching out to unbuckle Amelia's harness and set the girl down.
"Master, have some water," Mina brought over a cup of warm water. Her eyes glanced at the beaming Amelia as she poured a cup and handed it over.
"Mm," Lucas took the water and took a sip. He turned to Tony, who had run over, and asked, "Have you found the place I asked you to scout?"
Tony paused for a moment, then immediately knew what Lucas was asking. He said, "Master, I have found two places."
"What are they like?" Lucas raised an eyebrow. He was referring to the herb garden plan. He had asked Tony to find a place suitable for cultivating medicinal herbs. Sedona City needed a large quantity of herbs, and the army's demand for them was also increasing significantly.
"Master, neither place is far from Sedona City; it's about a day's journey on foot. One is a valley surrounded by mountains on all four sides. It has green leaves even in winter. We discovered it three days ago," Tony reported earnestly.
"Oh? Where is it?" Lucas raised an eyebrow. Green leaves in winter meant that the area had good heat retention, and cold winds and snow couldn't blow in. There might even be magma underground.
"It's just to the west, a little to the north," Tony said, pointing northwest. "If you fly with a hang glider, it would take half an hour to get there."
"Over there?" Lucas frowned, turned and beckoned to Chris, and asked, "The ginseng I had you look for last time, was it in that direction?"
Chris paused, trying hard to identify the direction, then said respectfully, "It was in that direction." It had taken them several days to find the ginseng last time, so Chris had a strong impression of it.
"Tony, send some men to clear a takeoff platform in that ginseng valley to be used for travel to and from the air force base," Lucas ordered. Now with hang gliders, flying to the valley would save time and effort.
"Yes," Tony said respectfully. This request was relatively simple; he had supervised the construction of the entire air force base according to the blueprints.
"Annie, find a few commoners who know how to grow vegetables. I have a mission for them in a few days," Lucas turned his head and instructed the fox-eared girl. That ginseng valley was already one of his designated herb gardens; he hadn't expected Tony to find it.
He wanted to train these commoners to become herb farmers, specifically for cultivating medicinal herbs. He also planned to section off a large piece of land in the Forbidden Mountain Range and use hang gliders to scatter herb seeds. Perhaps in a few years, there would be a large supply of wild herbs.
Lucas had also sent people to search for this world's medicinal herbs, using death row inmates for clinical research. If successful, the death row inmates would have a chance at life.
"Yes," Annie immediately took note.
"What about the other place?" Lucas asked. One herb garden was temporarily enough, but no one would complain about having more.
"Master, the second place is to the southwest. There's a crater there similar to our air force base, but the mountains are very low. The situation inside is similar to the valley I just mentioned," Tony briefly introduced.
"Oh? It also has green leaves in winter?" Lucas's black eyes lit up. This was unexpected.
"Yes, and there are some wild fruit trees inside. A soldier just discovered it yesterday," Tony said affirmatively.
"Very good. Let's set out for that place," Lucas stretched and ordered, "Prepare hang gliders for Chris and his men." He had Chris's detailed description of the ginseng valley, so there was no rush to see it. This new crater, however, he had to check out. He had another plan to implement.
"Master, I'm going too," Mina's cat tail swished rapidly as she said eagerly, "I can control a hang glider by myself."
"No way. You haven't even trained," Lucas rolled his eyes. The cat-eared girl had never used a hang glider by herself; how could he dare let her pilot one alone? Even he had taken a week to learn how to control one back on Earth.
"But..." Mina became anxious. She was Lucas's personal guard. Letting Lucas go to a strange place alone was something that had never happened before.
"Don't worry," Lucas reached out and caressed the cat-eared girl's cheek, saying gently, "The War Wolf squad will be there."
Even the War Wolf squad only came to the air force base for training when they had time, and they had only flown a total of three times. The cat-eared girl hadn't flown even once, yet she wanted to fly into the sky. She must have a death wish.
"But..." Mina grew more anxious, blaming herself a little for not taking the time to train with a hang glider.
"Master, I won't go. Let Mina go instead," Annie spoke up at this moment. She was a little worried about the Master's safety; it would be safer if Mina went with him.
"Master, you can go by hot air balloon," Tony reminded him from the side.
"That's right! We can go by hot air balloon," Mina's eyes lit up. She had almost forgotten that hot air balloons could also carry people.
The current hot air balloons could carry four people; they were the latest generation. She, Annie, and Elisa all knew how to operate one, as they would often go to the research department to play with them when they had free time.
"Alright then, let's all go together," Lucas thought about it and agreed. He ordered people to get new hang gliders and prepare a hot air balloon. After every flight, the hang gliders had to be carefully inspected to check for any cracks in the joints and so on.
