The Forbidden Mountain Range had many branches, and the location of Sedona City was also within one of these branches.
Tap, tap, tap…
Under the protection of the War Wolf squad, Lucas and the four girls were climbing a mountain. It wasn't very high, just a small peak of a few hundred meters.
The climb took twenty minutes. When they reached the mountaintop, Annie, Elisa, and Amelia stared in astonishment at the scene below.
It turned out that the top of the mountain was actually a large crater. Inside, many people were moving about. They saw wooden houses, draft horses, and even hot air balloons.
"Master, this is the secret base?" Annie was astonished. What on earth was this secret base for?
"Yes, this is it." Lucas nodded calmly. This was the air force base. Of course, it was a pseudo-air force base, with only a dozen or so personnel.
"Is this base meant to produce something?" Annie asked curiously, just like the perfume workshop.
"This is an air force base," Lucas said with a slight smile, walking down the newly opened path.
"Air force? What's that?" Annie pressed, her fox tail swishing as she chased after him. "Air force" was another unfamiliar term.
"You'll know in a bit," Lucas said calmly. He was here today to fulfill his promise: to let Amelia experience the feeling of gliding.
"Oh." Annie pouted and trotted after Lucas, her brown eyes darting around.
Elisa pursed her lips, suppressing her curiosity as she followed behind. She felt quite moved now; the Lord was actually willing to bring her to a secret base.
Tap, tap, tap…
The arrival of Lucas and the others immediately caught the attention of the people in the base. A dozen fully armed soldiers ran over at once. Upon seeing it was Lucas, they all saluted respectfully.
"Lord!"
"Where is Tony?" Lucas scanned the area but didn't see the person in charge, Tony, who was temporarily responsible for this air force base.
One could say that Lucas had appointed the entire Ben's family to high positions. This was something Lucas felt helpless about but had no choice, as he had far too few capable people at his disposal.
He could only wait until he had cultivated more personnel in the future before slowly replacing some of them. Otherwise, entrusting the entire military high command to one family would present a hidden danger. While he was in charge, no one would dare have improper thoughts, but he feared his descendants wouldn't be able to command the same respect.
In fact, Ben had openly and honestly advised him against it, telling Lucas not to give all the important posts to his family, as it would cause resentment and gossip. The Ben family's loyalty to Lucas was beyond doubt, but people's hearts can change. Their current simplicity didn't guarantee they would remain true to their original intentions over time. Lucas's talent pool was just starting to develop. Fortunately, he had set a policy to rotate high-level positions every few years, and he was the one who held absolute power.
Of course, it was too early for Lucas to be thinking about this now. He would only consider the problem of a single family becoming too powerful in at least a decade or so. According to his plans, this problem would never arise.
"City Lord, Tony sir is currently training the soldiers," The leading soldier said respectfully.
"Take me to see," Lucas waved his hand. In his mind, the person to lead the air force was Amelia, but the girl hadn't matured yet, and her wings hadn't grown out.
"Yes." The leading soldier immediately led the way.
"Hah!!!"
Before they even got close, they heard shouting coming from a wooden house.
Lucas glanced around. The wooden houses were arranged very neatly, and he nodded in satisfaction. When he first came, there were no such houses; everyone lived in caves. After more than a month, the wooden houses had been built.
Creek!
The wooden door was pushed open. Lucas led Mina, Amelia, Annie, and Elisa inside and saw a dozen men practicing with wooden swords.
Tony turned his head and saw Lucas. He immediately ran over and saluted respectfully, "Master."
"How is the training going?" Lucas looked at the soldiers who had stopped and asked coolly, "What's the progress?"
"Master, we are currently focusing on combat training," Tony said respectfully.
"Have you conducted flight training?" Lucas frowned and asked. This was his purpose for coming here; this was the absolute core of the air force.
"We have trained five times," Tony quickly replied. He became excited just talking about flying. He truly found it unbelievable that humans could actually fly in the blue sky. It was simply incredible.
"Oh? You've actually done it five times? Assemble them. I want to see the results of the training," Lucas ordered with a slight smile. He had brought about twenty hang gliders from Earth and had also left a few with the research department to be copied. He didn't know if they had been manufactured yet.
"Yes." Tony gave a salute, turned to the soldiers, and shouted, "Assemble!"
Tap, tap, tap…
Fifteen men immediately formed three lines, with five in each line, all with serious expressions. They were elites selected from the army.
"Prepare for a test flight," Tony shouted again.
"Yes!" The soldiers shouted in unison.
"You have only ten minutes to prepare. Assemble at the flight platform. Dismissed," Tony's voice was loud and clear.
"Yes." The soldiers immediately ran off.
"Let's go." Lucas nodded in satisfaction. The soldiers' morale seemed good; they were worthy of being elites chosen from hundreds of men.
"Yes." Tony trotted over and led the way to the flight platform.
Annie and Elisa looked at each other. What was this flight platform? It felt like everything here was shrouded in mystery.
The flight platform was the place for the air force to fly into the blue sky. There was also a place called the launch platform, which was where the hot air balloons were kept.
Lucas had been the one to designate these two places. When Lucas had chosen this location as the air force base, the potential for a flight platform had been one of the reasons.
