"God council, that's what they call themselves. Some Gods long ago formed a mutual agreement pact. They would protect each other in case of emergencies. Like attacks from Daemons or other rouge Gods." She stopped midway to let it sink in her counterpart's mind.
"What are Daemons and why am I hearing this now?"
"Daemons were former Gods who had cannibalised other Gods. Whenever a God kills another, Aether taints their very core. Daemon cores are blood red in colour and they can't change their appearance in the presence of other Gods to hide their crimes."
"I didn't tell you this earlier because it wasn't the right time for it."
"What do you mean it wasn't the right time!?" Anger once again started to build inside him, but he didn't let it fester further than this. He knew that she had a very good reason to not tell him.
Unbothered by the outburst she continued on.
"You were afraid when you heard the word fiend. I don't think you would have fared better knowing about Daemons too. Besides it was too much for your young mind, and it still is." She looked him in the eyes with her steel gaze which made the young God avert his eyes.
He didn't avert his gaze due to fear, he did it because he was ashamed of his actions earlier. She had been cordial and understanding with him. This made him feel bad and unappreciative, so he decided to man up and admit his mistake.
"I am sorry for my behaviour, I can't seem to control myself sometimes." This was to be expected from young Gods due to their predominant emotions. Some Gods were timid while others were angry.
Her eyes turned soft as she heard his apology. She was happy because he admitted his mistakes. This was very rare among Gods. All Gods were prideful creatures and would die rather than admit their mistakes. Even if they were wrong, they would blame others. It was one of the reasons she rarely visited the council or attended their meetings.
Seeing that she had forgiven him, he asked her to continue.
"God council has thousands of members, the majority consists of newborns and weak gods like you and me. Only Elder Gods make decisions. Even though anyone can become powerful enough to become an Elder God, not many get a seat at the table. The Elders who sit on the council are some of the most petty beings in the universe, even worse than Daemons and fiends."
"Many are bullies who oppress weak Gods, to maintain their own position." Her eyes burned with hatred this time, turning her pretty face, fierce.
"Then why would Gods even join the council, it seems like the Elders only want what's good for themselves. If the weak Gods just leave, the Elders won't be able to oppress them."
Yvonne looked at him with pity in her eyes. She knew that continuing further would make things worse for him. The image he had conjured in his mind of his own kin was slowly breaking and if she went further, it would just shatter.
"Imagine yourself if I hadn't found you. What would you have done? You would have figured rush on your own, no matter the time. If you didn't die by the time you found some other God, you would have registered as the member of council the moment you found them. The court has many rules and one of the rules they strictly enforce is that you can't leave the council if you join it. And if you do, they will label you as a Rouge God and hunt you down."
His head was spinning now, he didn't know what to say. He had thought of other Gods to be kind like Yvonne, but they were the exact opposite of what she was. Petty, cruel and manipulative were the best words to describe them.
Seeing the turbulent expression on the young God's face made her feel sad. She had gone through the same process she described, which made her determined to not let other Gods go through such a thing.
"Anyway, you asked me why I gave my creations the ability to use magic."
Not knowing what else to say, he went forward with Yvonne's blatant attempt to change the conversation and nodded.
"It's very simple, I wanted them to experience the same feeling I feel when using aether. Although mortal creatures can't use aether, I gave them the next best thing, Mana." Her smile once again returned as she remembered how people of her world created wonders using mana, which to this day manages to surprises her.
"Aether is a wonderful gift and I have taken it upon myself so that my children may enjoy what I do, in any form or shape." He didn't miss the word children. He knew that she loved mortals of her world but it was first time he heard her calling them children.
"We can learn many things from them, much more than the court would teach you. They have a plethora of knowledge waiting to be shared and spread. Never forget that."
He once again nodded, he didn't knew what he could learn from mortal creatures who lived very short lives but he didn't dismiss the thought entirely. He was wise enough to know Yvonne wasn't exaggerating her 'childrens' capabilities. He was now once again curious about the denizens of the planet in front of him.
"I've changed my mind, I would like to live among them." His eyes full of determination landed on Yvonne's mildly surprised ones, holding them and not backing down.
"Are you sure, you will experience things which could change your entire being. I think it's better to just watch for now."
"No, it's better this way at least I would have you along to guide me to the right path and make sure I don't do something potentially dangerous to myself."
She held his gaze for a long time before agreeing. His reasoning was sound. He would mature in her presence and she could make sure to not expose him to the dark side of her own creation. Even though she was proud of the creatures she had created, there were some things they did that even upset her.
"Alright, but I'll teach you about other elements and the societies that are present now. I don't want you to look like an outsider everywhere we go."
He excitedly nodded and Yvonne sent him the relevant information regarding the ecosystem and functioning of world, and the way her beloved Elves led their lives.
