Chapter 1 - Birth of a God

Weakness.

Anger..

Fear…

These were the first emotions the newborn god felt. Whenever a god was born, there were always some predominant emotions that defined the initial life period of the divine being.

"Whe–re ah I?" Unlike mortals who took years to gain consciousness, gods become aware of their surroundings in just a few hours. Even though they were quick to gain awareness, their bodies were unable to move and respond to stimulus for some time.

The newly born was currently floating through space in a fetal position with its back curved, head bowed, limbs bent and drawn to the torso. His eyes and mouth shut. It was quite similar to a developing fetus during gestation.

"You are safe" A resounding voice came from all around him. This voice shook him out of his trance-like state. The infant god tried to move his body, but was unable to do so. He then felt a connection with the voice inside his head. Instead of speaking through his mouth, he found it easy to relay his words

"Who are you?"

"I am Aether, the creator"

"What is that?"

"It is the matter from which you are made of"

"… Does that mean you are my creator too?" He was slowly becoming more intelligent through the connection with Aether. Giving him the ability to form coherent thoughts.

"Yes"

"Why can't I move?"

"Because you are a child, incapable of doing anything, at least for now."

"How can I move, then?"

"When you learn to do so"

"Why can't you help me?" He was getting stirred by the link between Aether and him. The link brought new notions and feelings to the newborn, making him feel agitated.

"It would be unfair to your siblings"

"I have brothers and sisters?" The thought of him having siblings made him feel happy for some reason which was unknown to him.

"Yes, you have many siblings"

"Can I meet them?"

"Yes"

"When can I meet them?"

"When you are able to"

The one-sided conversation was starting to get annoying. It irked the newborn to no end that he was getting vague answers from his creator, so he decided to address him,"Then what can you even help me with?"

"I can help you understand your capabilities and limitations."

"My capabilities?" His curiosity was piqued when he heard Aether's response.

"Yes, your capabilities. You are a God capable of creating and destroying life. You can desire life into existence."

"Do I have to do that?" The ability to create life was a tremendous power, any intelligent being would have jumped at the opportunity to get such a power. But the newborn God didn't have any ambitions. The only reason he got curious was because he felt a slight sensation in his body at the mention of his abilities.

"You do not have to do anything, it is your choice. Whether you create life or not, it's up to you."

"Will you get angry if I don't do it?" For some reason, he wanted to avoid disappointing his creator.

"I have created all my children equal and with free will. I have never forced them to do anything. The same goes for you. I will leave you after you learn the basics of your Godhood"

As they were talking, the infant god felt his hands for the first time. As he started to flex his fingers, he felt tingling throughout his whole body. He started to move his hands, after the hands, arms, and toes, then his elbows and legs followed. From afar, he looked like a recently born calf trying to stand up and falling short. It would be a fair assessment as the god was conceived just hours ago.

Slowly but surely, his motor skills improved, and he stood up straight and opened his eyes. What he saw was bright stars and colourful nebulae, with a mix of different colours such as pink, blue, purple, green, and red. He was awe-struck by the majestic gas clouds in front of him.

Aether stayed quiet because he would rather not ruin the moment for the newborn God.

He turned around and saw a massive planet with a ring around it. As he was looking at the planet, a giant chunk of ice and dust passed by him at high speed, which startled the young god. It was a comet in its dormant form.

After a brief moment, he again asked Aether a question."What else do I need to know?"

"Your body is made of Aether, which is the very fabric of the universe. I have used it to make you and your siblings. If you want to create life, you will need aether to do it. To achieve that, gather aether in your core, concentrate it and then spread it in the world."

"I thought you said it would be unfair to my siblings if you help me."

"These are the basic things that I teach to every child of mine. And besides, there are more things you can learn."

"So you can teach me how to create life but not how to stand?" The young god was confused by the way he was being taught by his creator.

"Yes, there are some things that I can teach you, while others you have to learn yourself"

"But you can teach me everything, there is to learn. There is no one to stop you from doing it"

"I can do it, but I won't"

"…You are a bad creator"
