Chapter 2 - Haunting Memories of the Past

Gabriel Velian was your regular 17 year old boy who had short raven black hair with a pair of striking amethyst eye's who stood at a height of 5ft 10 inches.

Granted it could be said that he was more handsome and smarter than the other boy's his age but apart from these few defining features he wasn't that much different than everyone of the same age.

Well that was until Windside City the city that he called home was attacked by a large group of berserk Soul Beast's.

The reason why so many Soul Beast's went berserk at once was due to an ancient Soul Beast known as the Terrestrial Four-Armed Titan Ape waking up from it's 3000 year slumber when he was only 10 year's old.

The only reason that he managed to survive this incident was because during this incident he happened to be lucky enough to awaken and become what was known as a Beastmaster.

A Beastmaster was a person that had the ability to contract Soul Beast's to fight alongside them which in turn allowed the awakened human to step onto the path of cultivation.

The average age that someone would normally awaken as a Beastmaster was at 17 although it wasn't unheard of people awakening as a Beastmaster earlier, but this usually happened around the age's of 13 to 15 making Gabriel's awakening an even rarer event than it already was.

Of course early awakenings came with both upsides and downsides the upside was that the newly awakened person's body would become stronger, healthier and they would also gain a life-bound Soul Beast that best suited them.

The downside that came with early awakenings was that it would put a tremendous amount of strain on the newly awakened Beastmaster's body making them bed ridden for the first year after they awakened.

Due to Gabriel's young age at the time of his awakening the strain on his young body was far more severe than what it usually should have been.

Another consequence of his early awakening was that his Martial Soul had still not yet been formed meaning he would have to wait until the awakening ceremony that takes place as soon as he starts his final year of high school.

Since his awakening he had been made bed ridden for the past 7 year's and 7 month's and only just recently regained his ability to walk in the last 5 month's albeit slowly.

During the year's he was bed-ridden Gabriel had managed to complete his schooling from home at the insistance of his parent's and would complete his remaining time at his school like a normal teenager.

In what spare time he had he learned everything he possibly could about Martial Soul cultivation techniques, the best way to raise various Soul Beast's and he even made his own personal catalogue of every type of Soul Beast he could find information on.

Gabriel was sat in the backseat of his families car with his head resting against the window as his thought's couldn't help but drift to the horrifying event from his past that drastically changed his life 7 year's ago.

==========================

7 year's earlier

A 10 year old Gabriel could be seen at home playing the latest and most popular game at the time Shadow King's: False Legend. It was a horror hack 'n' slash game that had seen an immense increase in popularity back then.

"Take that you rotting piece of shit" the 10 year old Gabriel cursed as the screen before him showed his character slicing through a group of creature's that were in various state's of decay.

Gabriel kept swinging his arm's causing his avatar to swing it's sword in turn slashing and cleaving the creature's on the screen in two. The same scene went on to replay over and over again like this for the next half hour.

That was until the room that Gabriel was in shook causing him to fall just as a massive and terrifying roar resounded in the air.

RUMBLE! ROOOOOAAAARRRR!

[RED ALERT! RED ALERT! THE ANCIENT SOUL BEAST THE TERRESTRIAL FOUR-ARMED TITAN APE HAS AWOKEN FROM IT'S SLUMBER CAUSING ALL THE SOUL BEAST'S IN THE SEALED SPACE TO GO BERSERK AND THEY ARE NOW HEADING TOWARDS WINDSIDE CITY] a loud masculine voice informed the resident's of Windside City of the looming threat.

Before Gabriel could react to the announcement he had heard another message being delivered [HEAVENLY BEASTMASTER'S ARE ALREADY HEADING TO INTERCEPT THE ONCOMING SOUL BEAST'S SO PLEASE HURRY TO YOUR NEAREST STATION AND BOARD ONE OF THE ESCAPE VEHICLES WHILE THE SHEILDS ARE STILL ACTIVE] the masculine voice said before it began repeating the two message's.

Gabriel stayed on the floor were he lay since the building first started shaking for a couple more seconds before he felt a hand pulling him up from the floor.

He looked up and his eyes met those of his older sister "Come on Gabe we need to get out of here" his older sister said as she pulled him towards the door.

As he made his way towards the front Gabriel made sure to grab his phone before exiting.

"AHHHHHH NO PLEA- ARRRGGHHH"

BOOM! BANG! CRASH!

The first thing Gabriel heard upon exiting his home was the screams of terror mixed with collisions of metal hitting metal as car's hit each other during the ensuing panic sound's which he would remember for the coming year's with freighting clarity.

Despite the cities best efforts in trying to prepare the inhabitants of Windside City for such possible scenarios none of the preparation could have prepared them for the reality of such a disaster.

Gabriel fished his phone out of his pocket and quickly called his parent's knowing his parent's would worry but unfortunately due to all of the calls that people would make in this kind of situation all he got was the busy dial tone.

[Due to the heavy influx of calls at this time we are experiencing difficulties and are currently unable to connect your call please try again later]

Gabriel let out a groan of annoyance when he heard the message explaing the reason why he was unable to contact his family but he quickly pushed it aside knowing that he didn't have the luxury of time as he and his sister made thier towards the closest evacuation site.

Half an hour later when Gabriel and his sister was only a few block's away from the evacuation site the sheild that protected Windside City shattered allowing the berserk Soul Beast's that surrounded the city inside.

KAAAWWW! KAAAWWW!

Shrill shrieks came from the sky above Windside City as the first Soul Beast's dived down marking the beginning of the nightmare.

Despite how strong the Heavenly Beastmaster Emperor's were and the many precautions the army had taken to stop the berserk Soul Beast's due to the sheer number of them they were unable to stop all of them from getting through the defence of the cities wall's.

Many different flying type Soul Beast's attacked the city causing a great amount of destruction as people fled for their lives trying not to be the next one to fall prey to the berserk Soul Beast's frenzied but powerful attacks. Due to the Soul Beast's coming from the Titan Space their bodies were stronger and they were twice the size of normal Soul Beast's.

Various Soul Beast's swooped down grabbing someone with their claws before taking them into the sky only dropping them to the floor moment's later other's tore them apart in the air as they fought over the unlucky person that was captured.

Gabriel stood in a daze as the berserk Soul Beast's reeked havoc on the city that was until one of the giant Soul Beast's flew at him with it's claws extended ready to tear him apart.

Just as it's claws were about to grab him a figure pushed him out of the way.

Thud.

Gabriel lifted his head from of the ground only to see his sister laying on the ground as the Soul Beast that flew at him was about to tear her apart.

When he saw his sister about to be eaten by a Soul Beast Gabriel felt an influx of power coming from within his body filling him with great strength before his vision turned black.

The next thing he knew he was waking up inside a hospital room his body racked with immense pain any sort of attempt at movement would send shocks of pain through his body.

=========================

"Young Master Gabriel we've arrived at our destination" a stern sounding feminine voice that came from a woman who was wearing a suit as she sat in the front of the car.

The woman was called Julia who was his personal maid she had long white hair that was tied back into a tight bun with a pair piercing cold blue eye's and she was as beautiful as she was deadly.

Gabriel was brought out of his thought's of the life changing event when he heard Julia's voice and stared up at the large school building outside of the car window. He noticed a large sign with golden letter's as they arched over the entrance to the school.
