"When I defeat Remo huh?" I asked, grinning, "You sure seem to have a lot of faith in me. Isn't he the favourite this year for the Kalos League, by your own words?"
"You asked if I was intimidated by you and the thought of you participating in the Kalos League, didn't you?" Astrid instead fired back with a question of her own, "Intimidated is a strong word, but I would say yes. As I said, I saw your battle with Lance, and you reached that point in a mere three months. It has been near four months since that battle. I can only imagine how powerful you and your pokemon have become by now."
Less than I'd dreamed for, but more than I'd anticipated.
"I still couldn't beat Lance if he fought us seriously." I settled for as a reply, grin widening just a tad.
"Because saying you couldn't defeat a champion of two entire regions is telling at all," Astrid snorted, before crossing her arms, "Besides, you just saw both of Remo's two ace pokemon in action, brief as it was. And you were still that confident to place that bet, which tells me enough."
"Well, you're not wrong," I admitted. It wasn't that Remo was a bad trainer or anything to be honest. I was just better, and had all the knowledge needed to abuse for fast and powerful growth at my fingertips, "I'm pretty sure I could have taken him at the time I fought Lance."
Pidgeot at least back then, was stronger than that Garchomp and Goodra without a doubt. How strong Garchomp would be with mega evolution I couldn't be sure, so it might have been a pretty close battle between the two.
Back then that was.
As it was, I doubted I'd even need to unleash Pidgeot. Unless I'm seriously underestimating Mega Evolution.
"I see," Astrid smirked, and nodded, "It seems i'll need to train even harder if I want to beat you."
"I'm not competing though, like I said." I pointed.
"Doesn't matter," Astrid retorted, "I'm aiming for the top. So, I'll just have to surpass you along with everyone else."
Fair enough.
I shrugged, "You can try." I challenged.
She giggled a bit, "Believe me, I will," the blonde grinned, "Anyway, since you're apparently not interested in trading that gorgeous Steelix of yours, can I ask something else?"
"For someone as cute as you, you can however many questions you want." I snorted.
Astrid's grin widened, "Well, that's helpful," she said, "Can I get your number then?"
Huh.
____________
'Well I wasn't expecting that.' I mused, idly rubbing my cheek feeling the phantoms sensation of lips on it as I made my way back to the battle arena.
Where Astrid had placed a chaste kiss after I gave her my number, and went on her way once I was called.
It was already the second rounds. The other battles hadn't lasted all that long. Which, made sense considering it was a tournament full of amateurs.
I was however surprised who my opponent for the second round was. A tiny, frail looking ginger boy with a mushroom like hair style, dressed in green, with a camera around his neck.
His face was flushed with sweat, and he looked really nervous. I honestly hadn't really paid attention to his battle.
"G-good luck!" Trever stuttered, already holding his pokeballs in sweaty palms.
The guy needed to relax a little, "You too mate," I tossed him a wave, "Let's have a good battle, yeah?" I said, as Rotom Gauntlet dropped two shrunken luxury balls into my palm.
"Alright trainers, you already know the rules," the referee said, "On the count of three, both of you release your pokemon."
"Y-yes sir!" Trevor.
"Mhmm." I simply nodded.
"Alright then," The referee nodded, "3…2….1! Release your pokemon trainers!"
"I choose you! C-Charmeleon! Flababe!" Trevor unleashed his two chosen pokemon in twin bursts of light.
At the same time I released my own, "Let's go! Togepi! Kubfu!" I declared. The pair of Luxury Balls in my hands clicked open in, and in bursts of bright light, the tiny diminutive forms of Togepi, and my newest pokemon, Kubfu appeared before me.
"Ku-fu!" Kubfu flipped as he appeared, bowing quickly. Before shifting into a ready fighting stance, one paw held out in front of him pam up, and one leg slid back behind the other.
While Togepi-
"Toge-pri pri pri pri pri!" Togepi gave a sneering chuckle, leering maliciously at the pair of pokemon standing on the opposite side of the battle field.
An odd silence ensued. And I saw Trevor giving me a look of disbelief, "Are…are you looking down on me and my pokemon?" he asked softly, almost looking hurt.
That was just annoying. What was with that doormat attitude? And who the fuck is he to ask me if I'm looking down on him, when he's using a bloody Flabebe.
I raised a brow at him, "Are you looking down on my pokemon?" I fired right back. Hypocritical little snot bag. Which is ironic because he's three to five years older than me.
He flinched back, his Charmeleon however snorted a pair of embers from its nostrils and glared, "Meleon!" it snarled, pawing one foot through the ground raking a small trench.
"Charmeleon no! Wait!" Trevor quickly cried out. But, in response, his pokemon ignored him and burst forward sprinting towards my pokemon, anger blazing in its eyes.
Heh, I guess some things never change. Just like in the anime timeline, his starter pokemon had zero respect for him.
"Wait! I did not say start yet!" the referee shouted.
"It's fine ref," I waved him off, just as the Charmeleon leaped into the air, flames burning in the maw of its throat and unleashed a Flamethrower straight towards Togepi, "I don't mind."
I didn't even need to order anything.
"Toge-ge-ge-ge!" Togepi giggled ominously, lifting one little stubby arm that began glowing blue.
And the flamethrower halted in mid air, a blue outline appearing around the flames. Before the flames about turned.
The Charmeleon barely had time for its eyes to widen in shock, and bring its arms up in a cross guard before its own flamethrower slammed into it and forced it back onto the ground.
It snarled, clawing through the flames and moving to step forward. Only to freeze as another blue outline appeared, this one forming around Charmeleon's body.
Togepi continued to laugh as the tiny baby pokemon used his Psychic attack to drag Charmeleon through the air towards him, and held up his other stubby little arm.
A churning glowing blue sphere of water swirling into existence. Just in time to smash it into the Charmeleon's face. Taking the Water Pulse attack as it exploded in a wave of water over its form, point blank, unable to even defend itself with Psychic keeping it immobile.
All the while Togepi laughed as it roared in pain.
