Chapter 36 - The youngest prodigal daughter returns

The day became a blur, as Lex sat in an interrogation room with only his thoughts he couldn't help but clench his fists. How had it come to this? Lana was gone and Lillian, he knew this world was dangerous, he thought he had time. Time to build a place to guarantee the future of LIllian's future. But they were gone and B2 was offline, no matter what he tried he couldn't connect with him.

"Mr.Luthor are you listening?" Lex snapped back to focus looking at the detective sitting before him. His suit was wrinkled, his hair a mess, he smelled of cigarettes and coffee. He was middle aged, the life in his eyes seemingly slowly fading away.

"Can you repeat the question, detective?" Lex asked.

"Can you provide the call logs, the mystery caller."

Lex knew it was a dead end, the police had no way of tracking him. They knew nothing of what was going down in this town but he knew that wasn't the only lead they'd be chasing. If he didn't provide some other lead they'd turn the investigation on him.

"I'll have it sent over, is there anything else?" Lex asked.

"Preliminary results have come back, dental records show it was Lana Lang in the driver seat. I'm sorry for your loss Mr.Luthor."

He didn't react, he wasn't sure there was a correct reaction in this moment. He had already begun grieving, the shock had already hit.

"You're free to go, we'll call you if we need anything else." the officer said his solemn tone remaining present.

Standing Lex stepped out of the interrogation room, spotting Chloe standing at the exit her eyes red her makeup a mess.

"I'm sorry Chloe, they're gone," He said stopping in front of her, he watched as the news hit her, as her tears came back as her hand rose to cover her mouth as her breathing seemed to become troubled. Placing a hand on her shoulder he had trouble thinking of the right words so he said nothing.

A few minutes later she caught her breath wiping her eyes she looked up at Lex a sad smile appearing on her face. "I should be the one comforting you, I'm sorry Lex."

"It's fine, we're all grieving, How's Clark taking the news?" he asked.

"Not well, he's trying to keep busy at the farm so he doesn't have to think about it, do you have any news on who did this?"

At those words Lex's eyes narrowed, "No all we have is a mysterious voice on a phone call, but i'll find them and when I do." A dangerous glint appeared in his eyes, he had known how dangerous this world was. Unfortunately he had too much he cared about before he was able to protect it. He'd find Lana and Lillian's killer and they'd wish they'd never been born once he was done with them.

Turning back to Chloe he cleared his throat, "I should be heading out, i'll keep you updated." Walking past her he stepped outside, the sun had already risen, he'd spent an entire day within that interrogation room. B2 was still offline, nothing seemed to be going right.

There wasn't a moment he wasn't checking B2's device to see if he was back online, even during the drive home he found himself checking it at every light. LuthorCorp was under attack, someone was attempting to buy shares and power. Lex held the majority, so whatever the anonymous buyer was doing it wouldn't be enough. But buying shares seemed to be only one part of their plan, why were the systems under attack? What kind of tech did they have that they could distract B2 for such a long period of time. Lex wasn't sure, as he pulled into a stop outside of the mansion.

He dreaded seeing the inside, so many memories of Lana filled those walls. Lillian was a new addition but the moment he had seen her she was his everything. Now she was gone, they both were and he still had to live. Even if the only reason he could think of right now was revenge, so he could tear those that took his family limb from limb.

Stepping out of the car he frowned as the front door of the mansion swung open. Sure there were security guards within the building but when entering and exiting they usually took the side entrance unless they were with a member of the family. Dark hair and green eyes greeted him as a teenager no older than 14 raced towards him. She jumped into his arms smelling of lilac and honey.

"Lena?" He asked holding his younger sister in his arms.

"We got here as soon as we could," Lena said breaking the hug a red hue to her eyes.

"We?" Lex asked as Lena grabbed his hand and pulled him into the mansion.

"Yes, my mother is here as well, the flight from national city was a disaster." Lena's energetic tone gave Lex a bit of relief he didn't know he needed.

Elizabeth Wenstead stood in the lobby of the mansion, ordering the security on how to handle their bags. Seeing Lex a sad smile appeared on her face as she stepped forward pulling him into a hug before breaking it.

"We're here now Alexander, i'll handle things while you take a much needed rest, and Lena's been complaining about national city for long enough. In trying times family should stick together." Elizabeth had black hair with blue eyes, she and his father had publicly been a couple while Lex went to excelsior. It didn't end well but they remained amicable for Lena, unfortunately for Lionel Elizabeth was filthy rich. He was unable to control her as he had done Lex's mother, so the moment she had the chance she took Lena and moved back to National City to run her businesses.
