Lana smiled as the front door swung open, it wasn't exactly spring in smallville, the think overcoat she wore was doing very little to keep her warm. She had seen Tobias walking the halls of smallville back when she was a student. He was younger so it wasn't often but seeing him now filled her with pity. He hunched over, sunglasses covering his face, he seemed waiting for her to say something.
"Tobias, It's Lana Lang from Smallville high," she waited patiently watching as a smile appeared on his face.
"I haven't talked to this many crows since graduation," Tobias stepped back, "Come on in."
"The meteor shower's have complicated so many of our lives," Lana said as she took a seat across from Tobias.
"It could have been worse, many people died that day," Tobias took a second before a smile appeared on his face, "I'm just blind."
Lana couldn't help but agree, her parents had died in the original meteor shower. She had been lucky in the second one, to walk away with a broken ankle was truly a blessing.
"I heard you're engaged to Lex Luthor, he's a good guy," his words seemed genuine and Lana couldn't help but smile. It wasn't often that people associated the word good with Lex.
"He's trying to be the best version of himself he can be, I know your surgery isn't as simply as you initially believed but Lex is a man that keeps his word," Lana said knowing that Lex would do everything in his power to help Tobias. Not only because it was the right thing to do but because it was in his best interest to find a cure. To stop those affected by the meteors from putting their lives in danger.
"Coming from you I have to believe it," Tobias paused, "you were always kind in high school."
"You mentioned talking to other crows, who were they?" Lana asked raising an eyebrow.
"Your old friends, Chloe and Clark," Tobias said smiling.
"Clark was here?" Lana asked catching her breath.
"Yeah he was just as nice as always," Tobias responded.
"I understand that the meteor shower gave you the ability to identify other people affected by the meteors, you haven't told anyone about Clark have you?"
"Clark?" Tobias seemed to laugh at the thought.
"You can be honest Tobias, I just want to protect his secret," Lana said consolingly.
"Clark is the most normal guy i've ever met, he wasn't affected by the meteor shower!"
What? Lana had clearly seen it, the hoe that Lex had used against Clark that night. It was bent out of shape, Clark was as good as new the next time she saw him. It explained it all, all the times he had been injured only for the wounds to magically disappear or his cast to disappear the next day. Clark clearly wasn't normal and the only logical explanation was the meteor shower.
KnockKnock
Her thoughts were interrupted as someone knocked on the door, looking at Tobias she could tell he wasn't exactly expecting someone else.
"Tobias it's me," She recognized that voice, it was the doctor that had been at the mansion earlier that day.
Tobias stood walking towards the door, the doctor let himself in as he grabbed Tobias by the shoulder.
"Pack a bag Tobias, we're headed to national city, i've convinced a friend to sponsor your surgery." Dr.Bethany paused as he spotted Lana.
"Dr.Bethany, it's a pleasure to see you again." Lana said smiling.
"Miss-" Dr.Bethany seemed to blank.
"Lang," Tobias interrupted as he freed himself from Dr.Bethany's grip. "She's a friend from high school."
"We'll I apologize for interrupting your social visit but we need to leave and now," Dr.Bethany said attempting to place his hand on Tobias' shoulder only for him to step back towards the couch Lana was sitting at.
"Mr.Luthor has already explained that surgery would be arbitrary," Tobias said in confusion.
"Whose word are you going to trust more, a corrupt businessman or a doctor that has looked after you and your family your entire life?" Dr.Bethany said raising his voice.
"You're right," Tobias said seemingly smiling at his own ignorance.
"Tobias," Lana stood hoping to change his mind but Tobais stopped her.
"It's fine, Lana," looking off into space he continued, "I'll grab my to go bag," walking over to the closet to the right he reached inside pulling out a bag.
"Good," Dr.Bethany said nodding as Tobias stood at the entrance of the closet. "But before we go we'll need to get rid of her," faster than she could react Dr.Bethany reached behind his back pulling out a pistol.
She froze, it wasn't the first time she had a gun pointed at her yet she still felt her blood run cold.
"Come Tobias," Dr.Bethany called out still looking at Lana.
"I don't think so," suddenly Dr.Bethany wasn't the only one with a gun. Yet as he looked towards Tobias he couldn't help but smile. "Tobias you're blind!" he said as if pointing out the obvious.
"But I can hear just fine," Tobias said as he pointed the gun pefectly at Dr.Bethany pressing the trigger.
Lana watched as Dr.Bethany reeled from being shot, the bullet had went straight through his chest. He was quick to react as he aimed towards Tobias retaliating in kind.
"Tobias," he seemed to know the bullet was coming as he stepped out of the way. Only now did Lana spot the breaker box behind Tobias, she watched as the bullet pierced the box, and the flames began. They spread fast from the box towards the ceiling as if it was following an electrical chord. The dingy old house barely seemed capable of withstanding the flames as the ceiling began to crumble. The flames spread to the entrance growing larger as wood began to splinter, the ceiling cruimbled as debris blocked the entrance.
Turning back towards Dr.Bethany he seemed to have passed out from the shock of being shot. Running over to Tobias she helped him up from the ground, "Tobias, where's the other exit?"
"It's an old house, my dad was planning on building one but he-" Lana understood even without him finishing his sentence.
Moving over towards the windows she couldn't help but frown, they were sealed shut with paint. Gripping the window seal she did her best to lift but it was all for naught, she could feel the heat raising. She could see the smoke begin to coalesce as it covered the ceiling.
"Tobias, the front door is covered by fire we need to get out."
"I'm sorry Lana," Tobias seemed out of breath, his hand hadn't moved from his waist sense she helped him up. Grabbing that hand she pulled it from his stomach frowning as she saw the blood. She had thought he had avoided the bullet, she was wrong.
"It's gonna be okay Tobias, help will come," she was so confident. Someone would arrive, some neighbor would see the fire, someone would arrive in time. Even if it wasn't the firefighters, there was always Clark. Then she remembered Tobias' words, Clark wasn't effected by the meteors, if he wasn't could he actually help. Had she been wrong all along? She had been foolish, she shouldn't have been here in the first place. Now not only was she in danger but her child as well, how would Lex react to losing both her and their child?
She could feel her breathing getting heavy, her eyes burned, she was barely able to keep them open. Just when she thought no one was coming, she heard someone at the entrance. Crawling towards the front door she watched as the rubble was cleared, as the fire was extinguished.
"Clark," She muttered, before everything faded to black
