The study emanated the fragrance of paper and ink; its walls adorned with many hanging scroll writings, an old man with white hair and beard stood before a writing desk, his posture as steadfast as a green pine. The study sat within a secluded courtyard, for the elder preferred to practice calligraphy undisturbed, and so during these sessions, not even family members were permitted entry.
A shadow crept in slowly and materialized behind the old man as Mr. Su Bai's figure took shape.
Concealing his presence, Mr. Su Bai watched the old man, who was practicing his calligraphy with a solemn and serious demeanor.
Within what he called his "childhood memories," Su Yuhang also enjoyed calligraphy, likely a tradition inherited from this elder. To some degree, this old man was his grandfather, but his relationships with relatives on both his mother's and father's sides had never been close, neither in the past nor now.
