Miri and I now stood at the entrance of the grand hall. The truth of my past still weighed heavily on my chest, yet I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. Relief for finally knowing the truth. And although I did not really get to know my real mother, she sounded like the most amazing person.
I could tell because Miri was just as amazing. It was no wonder she was so dedicated to protecting me. Now I finally understood the real reason behind it.
Staring at the large courtyard, I let out a long sigh.
"What's wrong?" Miri asked.
I shook my head, saying, "Life can be so funny at times. You know, back when I still stayed in the outer districts, I used to believe that if I could find a modest shack, and maybe have a stable job… I'd be happy. I'd be satisfied. Maybe I'd die alone and silently, and nobody would care."
"But look at you now." Miri chuckled. "In the end, you've become the single most important woman in the entire pack. You've come a long way, big sis."
