~KAEREN~
The air in the ballroom felt too harsh to breathe in. Standing on the stage, in front of more people than I could count, I watched everything I had built crumble before my very eyes. The secret was out. Right at the moment when everything was about to be mine.
Now the pack looked at me like I was an imposter in my own skin. I felt disgusted by the judgemental looks they carried, as though the 'Mate from Spain' stunt was enough to override all the time I had devoted to the pack.
My father's gaze on me was heavy, filled with disappointment that was too palpable for me to shrug off. I could not even meet his gaze. I had made a fool out of him in front of so many people.
To him, I must now appear no different from those who had betrayed him.
And it was all her fault. This hell-born fiend who stood bowed before my father, wrapped in lies and wielding deceit like a weapon. This damned woman that I wished so much to rip apart with my bare hands.
But I could not.
