Rosamund
The men went silent
My hand was no longer on the bannister; it had unconsciously moved to my stomach.
"That is not something I can manufacture on a timeline, Clyde." Nevan's voice was strained. "Rosamund and I are... we're working through things. Slowly. The pregnancy test at the palace came back negative. I had hopes that she would be pregnant and not because I wanted the child to be used as a stepping stone for my position, just for the sole purpose of becoming a father. There was no child, Clyde. I was so disappointed," he inhaled deeply. "Then again, none of it is Rosamund's fault."
A pang of guilt coursed through me so hard I had to press my shoulder against the wall to keep my balance.
The way he'd said the last words with such quiet finality and resignation pained my heart.
