He was quiet for a moment. The warmth in his expression cooled, not toward me, but toward the subject. His face changed, the way someone's face changes when he turns from something they love to something they dread.
He nodded. "All the evidence points to her. I found it myself, at Wellspring, in her quarters. All the letters, records and a hidden room I didn't know existed."
"She'll come to Wellspring," Nevan continued, "and when she does, it's not going to be pleasant. There will be arguments. Accusations. Things said that can't be unsaid."
"Then why not end it now?" I asked. "Why didn't Julian name her at the palace? Why let her walk free when you have the proof?"
"Because it's not that simple."
"Why not? You have the letters. You have the records. You have the women themselves who can testify—"
