Destiny is just history pretending it cannot be challenged.
That was the first thing I realised while standing beneath a broken heaven watching ancient darkness crash against crimson light across the sky.
The second thing?
History had a terrible imagination.
We were surrounded by the burning city of Heaven.
Not dying.
Transforming.
Silver barriers and crimson-black throne energy spread together through shattered streets while hunters and vampires fought side by side against the Devourer horde pouring through the broken northern seal.
The impossible had become a strategy.
Interesting.
Very catastrophic.
Very interesting.
Above the ruined cathedral—
Lucian's ghost stood beside the awakened throne, his crimson eyes reflecting a future he never lived long enough to see.
Not lonely anymore.
Not tragic.
Just… proud.
Elena stared at him like someone finally allowed to breathe after centuries underwater.
Beautiful.
Painful.
Very beautiful.
The Devourer looked furious now.
Good.
I preferred ancient horrors to be emotionally unstable.
The creature's darkness exploded outward violently, consuming entire sections of the cathedral as more lesser Devourers crawled from the broken seal above heaven.
Thousands.
No.
More.
The sky itself looked infected.
Raphael stepped beside me, his silver spear blazing brighter than before.
"Can your throne close the breach completely?"
Straight to business.
Professional.
I respected it.
I looked upward at the spreading darkness.
Then, at the awakened throne behind us.
Then at the queens.
The bonds answered immediately.
Warm.
Alive.
Incomplete.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
"No."
Silence.
Raphael's expression darkened.
Fair reaction.
Then I smiled faintly.
"But we can."
The Devourer's crimson eyes snapped toward me instantly.
Excellent.
I continued—
"The throne was never meant to stand alone."
Lucian's ghost laughed softly above us.
Like a man hearing someone finally solve the question that ruined his life.
Interesting.
Very emotional.
Very interesting.
Selene stepped closer, moonlight spreading around her feet like silver tides.
"You have a plan."
Not a question.
Accusation.
Correct accusation.
I nodded once.
"Dangerously."
Valeria grinned immediately.
"There he is."
Seraphina crossed her arms, crimson flames burning darker around her body.
"How dangerous?"
I looked toward the collapsing seal.
"At minimum?"
A pause.
"Historically irresponsible."
Lilith sighed softly.
Which meant yes.
Perfect.
Raphael looked between all of us like he was reconsidering every decision that brought him here.
Reasonable.
Very reasonable.
I pointed toward the broken sky.
"The seal responds to connected bloodline resonance."
Raphael blinked once.
"That sentence sounds illegal."
Fair.
Very fair.
Elena stepped forward slowly.
Understanding dawned across her expression.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
"The throne evolved because the bonds changed its nature."
I nodded.
"Yes."
Then looked toward the queens.
"Lucian carried the throne through sacrifice."
A pause.
"We carry it through connection."
Silence.
Heavy.
Beautiful.
The Devourer suddenly moved.
Darkness exploded toward us in massive waves as the creature finally abandoned conversation entirely.
Good.
Talking phases were exhausting.
Raphael reacted instantly.
Silver fire erupted across the cathedral, intercepting the darkness before it reached us.
The collision shattered half the remaining pillars.
Interesting.
Extremely destructive.
Very interesting.
The lesser devourers rushed forward, screaming.
Hunters met them head-on.
Vampires followed beside them.
War consumed Heaven completely.
Perfect.
I grabbed Seraphina's hand first.
The blood bond ignited instantly.
Crimson fire surged through the throne's aura.
Then Selene.
Moonlight flowed into the connection like calm, stabilising chaos.
Lilith's royal bloodline answered next.
Authority.
Order.
Purpose.
Finally—
Valeria.
Violence, laughter, instinct, life.
The throne exploded.
Crimson-black light erupted upward through the broken cathedral roof and pierced directly into the fractured seal above Heaven.
The city shook violently.
Every vampire froze.
Every hunter looked upward.
And somewhere beyond the darkness—
Something ancient screamed.
Interesting.
Very important.
Very interesting.
The Devourer's expression finally changed completely.
Fear.
Real fear.
Excellent.
The throne's aura spread across the sky in massive waves now, no longer just power.
Memory.
Emotion.
Connection.
The seal began rebuilding itself around those feelings.
Not sacrifice.
Belonging.
Interesting.
Impossible.
Very interesting.
Raphael stared upward in disbelief.
"The throne is rewriting the barrier."
Lucian answered softly from above—
"No."
The First King's ghost looked toward me.
Toward the queens.
Toward Heaven itself.
"It's rewriting the world."
Silence.
Absolute.
The Devourer screamed in rage and lunged toward us personally this time.
No armies.
No manipulation.
Pure fury.
Good.
I preferred honesty.
The creature crashed into Raphael first.
Silver fire and darkness exploded violently together.
Raphael slid backwards across shattered marble, spear locked against black claws.
The floor beneath him cracked instantly.
Strong.
Very strong.
I moved immediately.
Shadow Step.
Appeared behind the Devourer—
Father's blade pierced through the darkness and struck its side directly.
This time—
The creature bled.
Real blood.
Black-red.
Burning.
Interesting.
Very important.
Very interesting.
The Devourer roared and struck backwards hard enough to launch me through the cathedral wall.
Pain exploded through my ribs again.
Honestly?
The universe needed new hobbies.
I hit the ground outside the cathedral in the middle of the ruined city.
Above me—
Heaven burnt crimson and silver together.
Hunters and vampires fought side by side across rooftops and broken streets.
The impossible thing.
Still happening.
Good.
A lesser devourer rushed toward a wounded hunter nearby.
Before I could move—
A vampire noble intercepted it instantly.
Tore the creature apart.
Then helped the hunter stand.
No hesitation.
No hatred.
Interesting.
Very beautiful.
Very interesting.
The world was changing.
Actually changing.
The Devourer crashed through the cathedral wall after me, darkness consuming entire buildings around its body.
Furious now.
Wrong.
Unstable.
Excellent.
It pointed at the sky violently.
"You infect the throne with weakness!"
I stood slowly.
Blood running down my mouth.
The bonds stabilising me instantly.
Home.
Always home.
I smiled.
"You keep calling love weakness."
A pause.
"Which honestly explains why you keep losing."
The creature screamed and attacked.
This time—
The queens moved with me.
Not behind.
Beside.
Seraphina's flames trapped the darkness.
Selene's moonlight froze its movement.
Lilith's authority crushed the surrounding lesser Devourers.
Valeria launched herself directly at the creature's blindside, laughing like war itself had chosen violence as self-care.
Amazing woman.
Perfect.
And for the first time—
The Devourer struggled.
Not against one king.
Against all of us.
Interesting.
Very satisfying.
Very interesting.
Raphael landed beside me again, silver spear burning brighter than ever.
He looked at the queens.
At the bonds.
At the throne, healing the sky above us.
Then at me.
And finally asked the question he'd been avoiding.
"How are you still in control?"
There it was.
The fear beneath every fear.
Power-consuming kings.
Monsters are winning eventually.
I looked at him.
Then toward the woman beside me.
And answered honestly—
"Because they never let me become alone long enough to lose myself."
Silence.
Raphael stared for one second longer than necessary.
Understanding.
Dangerous thing.
Then he nodded once.
Respect.
Finally.
Good.
The Devourer saw that too.
And suddenly—
It looked desperate.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
Because for the first time in history—
The war was changing.
Not through power.
Not through slaughter.
Through people refusing the old ending.
Lucian sacrificed everything and died alone.
I wouldn't.
And Heaven itself was beginning to realise
that destiny only controlled those too afraid to rewrite it.
