Chapter 46 - Queens Build Kingdoms

Kings win wars.

Queens decide what survives afterwards.

That was the problem.

And also the reason history feared them more.

The Crimson Church cathedral had officially stopped functioning as a holy institution and quietly transformed into the most dangerous political meeting in modern history.

Hunters guarded broken halls.

Priests whispered about rebellion.

The old tribunal members looked one emotional speech away from retirement.

And at the centre of it all—

My wives were building a kingdom.

Honestly?

Terrifying.

I stood near the shattered altar with Father's silver-black blade resting against my shoulder while noble leaders, clan representatives, and surviving church officials argued around us like civilisation was desperately trying to negotiate with reality.

Valeria called it "fun".

This was why no one let her manage diplomacy.

Probably.

Seraphina stood near the cathedral map table like war had learned elegance.

Selene sat beside her, silver eyes calm while reorganising territory influence charts with the same expression most people used while choosing tea.

Lilith stood at the head of the gathering.

Of course she did.

Royal authority wasn't something she used.

It was something gravity politely accepted around her.

And Elena—

Elena watched from the cathedral balcony above.

Saint of the Crimson Church.

Witness to history, refusing repetition.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

I took a sip of coffee.

Cold.

Terrible.

Still, somehow, the least stressful thing is happening.

Valeria appeared beside me, carrying three folders and absolutely no respect for peace.

"Good news."

I already disliked that sentence.

She handed me a document.

"The Church controls fourteen underground territories, eight political banking fronts, six noble alliances, and apparently three casinos."

I blinked.

"Why does Heaven own casinos?"

Valeria shrugged.

"Religious organisations diversify."

Fair.

Very fair.

I hated that she had a point.

Across the room, Seraphina pointed at a section of the map.

"If the Eastern clans move first, the Church loses supply routes within forty-eight hours."

Selene nodded calmly.

"Assuming House Veyron remains neutral."

Lilith looked at a stack of reports.

"They won't."

Her voice remained smooth.

"Fear makes weak families predictable."

There it was again.

The terrifying truth.

The queens weren't reacting anymore.

They were planning.

Not survival.

Rule.

Interesting.

Very dangerous.

I looked around the room.

And realised something important.

Lucian had ruled through strength.

I was about to rule through women terrifying enough to make strength obsolete.

Excellent.

Absolutely excellent.

Mother entered carrying food.

Because naturally.

No political revolution survived Indian parenting.

She placed plates down on the strategy table.

"Eat."

Nobody argued.

Not even Lilith.

That was power.

True power.

Father followed behind her, carrying tea and reading financial reports, as if overthrowing supernatural governments were a side hobby.

Legend.

Absolute legend.

He stopped beside me and glanced at the map.

"Hm."

A pause.

"If House Veyron collapses financially, the western clans lose seventy per cent of their political leverage."

Silence.

Everyone looked at him.

Even Elena.

Father took a sip of tea.

"What?"

Lilith smiled slightly.

"Your husband is dangerous."

Mother nodded proudly.

"I know."

Perfect marriage.

I respected it deeply.

Kavya leaned over the strategy table.

"So basically…"

She pointed dramatically.

"…we're making a vampire empire?"

Valeria answered immediately.

"Yes."

Seraphina answered—

"No."

Selene answered—

"Technically."

Lilith answered—

"Eventually."

I sighed.

"That was four different levels of concern."

Reasonable.

Very reasonable.

Then—

The cathedral doors opened again.

At this point, I was charging destiny rent.

Another group entered.

Not hostile.

Worse.

Political.

Beautiful nobles dressed in gold and white stepped into the chamber with smiles expensive enough to qualify as weapons.

At their centre—

A woman with long golden hair and crimson-gold eyes walked as if she had never lost an argument in her life.

Interesting.

Very dangerous.

Very beautiful.

Valeria looked delighted.

"Oh no."

I immediately disliked those words.

Seraphina sighed softly.

Selene looked mildly irritated.

Lilith closed her eyes briefly, like fate had become exhausting.

Wonderful.

The woman stopped before us and smiled directly at me.

Bright.

Perfect.

Absolutely untrustworthy.

"Well."

Her voice flowed like warm wine and expensive bad decisions.

"So this is the king everyone is emotionally compromising themselves over."

Silence.

Then—

Valeria burst out laughing.

Traitor.

Professional traitor.

I looked at the newcomer.

"And you are?"

She placed one hand against her chest dramatically.

"Lady Aurelia Veyron."

Ah.

Wonderful.

House Veyron.

The clan Selene had just discussed destroying financially.

Excellent timing.

She tilted her head slightly.

"And future problems."

I appreciated honesty.

Dangerous woman.

Very dangerous.

She looked around the room.

At the queens.

At Elena.

At the ruined cathedral.

Then back at me.

Her smile sharpened.

"You've made quite a mess."

I nodded once.

"It was already decorated terribly."

Valeria looked proud again.

Concerning.

Aurelia laughed softly.

Good.

At least one noble here had emotional range.

Then her eyes moved toward Lilith.

"Your Majesty."

Lilith answered with royal calm.

"Lady Veyron."

Ah.

Tension.

My favourite.

Aurelia looked back at me.

"House Veyron has no interest in kneeling."

I folded my arms.

"Good."

That surprised her.

Interesting.

I continued.

"Kneeling is inefficient."

Silence.

Then Selene quietly hid a smile behind her teacup.

Victory.

Tiny.

Important.

Aurelia stepped closer.

Curious now.

Dangerous.

"Then what exactly are you building, Vampire King?"

There it was.

The question.

Not on the throne.

Not war.

Future.

Everyone in the room watched.

The queens.

The Saint.

The clans.

My family.

The world was waiting to see whether kings dreamt of crowns or cages.

I looked at the broken cathedral.

The hunters were standing beside the vampires instead of fighting them.

Elena refuses history.

Seraphina is choosing love over obedience.

Selene refused to kneel.

At Lilith, already carrying the weight of empires.

Valeria is turning chaos into loyalty.

Then I answered honestly.

"A place where no one has to become a monster just to survive one."

Silence.

Absolute.

Even the cathedral seemed to breathe differently.

Aurelia stared at me.

Long.

Careful.

Then slowly—

Her smile changed.

Less amusement.

More interest.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

She whispered—

"Oh."

There it was.

The dangerous moment.

Recognition.

Because the world was full of rulers.

But very few kings.

And queens?

Queens recognised the difference first.

Aurelia looked toward the women beside me.

Then back at me.

And said softly—

"No wonder they chose you."

Seraphina approved silently.

Selene looked almost peaceful.

Lilith looked proud.

Valeria looked ready to plan ten weddings and a war simultaneously.

Terrifying woman.

Aurelia stepped back slightly.

"Then House Veyron wishes to negotiate."

Lilith raised one elegant brow.

"Negotiate?"

Aurelia smiled.

"Queens build kingdoms."

Her crimson-gold eyes met mine.

"But kings decide whether those kingdoms deserve loyalty."

Interesting.

Very interesting.

And just like that—

Another clan approached the throne.

Not because of fear.

Not because of power.

Because hope had entered the room.

Which was honestly much more dangerous.
