Chapter 46 - Evergreen and Obsession

Snow fell thick and silent outside the tall leaded windows, wrapping the academy grounds in a blanket of white twilight. Inside the Dean's office, every shadow was chased away by the warm, flickering glow of candlelight and the soft radiance of a magnificent Christmas tree—heavy with gilded ornaments, fragrant pine boughs, and strands of golden light that seemed to weave through the branches like captured sunlight. The air smelled of spiced wine, roasted chestnuts, pine resin, and the faint, familiar scent of Irina's jasmine perfume—mingled together until the room felt less like an office and more like a sacred, sealed sanctuary.

It was Christmas Eve, but the world beyond these walls might as well have ceased to exist.

Irina stood by the tree, her fingers brushing the velvet ribbon tied around its trunk, when she felt his presence behind her—close, as always, never giving her more than a breath of space. Strong arms slid instantly around her waist, locking against her abdomen, pulling her back tight against his chest until she could feel the steady, possessive beat of his heart through both their layers of clothing. He rested his chin on her shoulder, his dark eyes drinking in the sight of her framed by the lights, his breath warm against her cheek.

"Beautiful," he murmured, but he was not looking at the tree. "You are the brightest decoration here… the only gift I have ever wanted."

He turned her in his arms, his hands sliding up to cup her face, his thumbs tracing the curve of her lips with a slowness that bordered on feverish. The festive cheer in his voice was layered deep with that familiar, dark intensity—an obsession that even the holiday glow could not soften, only gild.

"I have given you everything," he whispered, gesturing vaguely to the lavish gifts stacked beneath the boughs—silk-wrapped boxes, velvet cases, things of exquisite beauty and value. "Everything your heart could desire. But there is one gift you must give me in return… your absolute certainty. That you know this is where you belong. That you have no wish to step out into the cold, cruel world outside… not when it is so warm here, with me."

He led her to the large leather sofa positioned near the hearth, where a fire crackled and leaped, painting their skin in hues of amber and deep red. He sat and pulled her firmly onto his lap, refusing to let her sit beside him—she must be held, contained, anchored to his body as if they were two halves of the same whole. His fingers toyed idly with the silver chain around her neck, twisting it gently, testing its strength—just as he tested the boundaries of her willingness to stay.

"Everyone else has gone home for the holidays," he told her, his voice smooth, almost sweet, yet chilling in its completeness. "The halls are empty. The gates are locked. I have seen to it that no one will disturb us. No visitors, no messengers, no one to take even a moment of your attention away from me." He kissed the hollow of her throat, lingering there until she shivered. "Just us. For all the days of the feast. Forever, if I have my way."

He reached for a small, velvet-wrapped box resting on the low table—unopened, waiting. He held it up, his eyes never leaving hers.

"A gift," he said softly, opening it to reveal a delicate, breathtaking bracelet of fine gold links, each one set with tiny, shimmering pearls. It was beautiful, undeniably so—but as he took her wrist to fasten it, his grip was firm, unyielding. "See how it shines? A chain of light. No iron or steel for you—only the most precious things… to remind you that you are precious to me. That you are bound to me by something far stronger than metal."

He clasped it securely, running his fingers down the length of her arm as if tracing the invisible extension of that bond.

"You will wear it always," he murmured, leaning in to kiss the pulse point at her wrist. "So whenever you move… whenever you try to reach for anything or anyone else… you will feel it. You will remember who placed it there. Who owns every part of you—your days, your nights, your holidays… your very life."

The fire popped, sending sparks up the chimney, and the Christmas lights twinkled like distant stars, but the warmth in the room was his—radiating from his body, his gaze, his crushing, all-consuming embrace. He fed her pieces of sweet fruit and rich cake from his own hand, refusing to let her lift a finger, watching her chew and swallow with a look of fierce, hungry satisfaction.

"Tell me you are happy here," he demanded softly, his fingers tangling in her hair to tilt her face upward. "Tell me you would never trade this—this warmth, this love—for the cold outside, for the trivial company of others. You are my Christmas miracle, Irina… and miracles are not meant to be shared. They are meant to be kept safe. Locked away where only I can see them."

He kissed her deeply then, amidst the scent of pine and firelight, a kiss that tasted of celebration and imprisonment in equal measure. Outside, the snow kept falling, burying the world in white silence—but inside, beneath the golden tree and the Dean's unblinking, watchful gaze, Irina understood that this holiday was not just a celebration. It was a gilded cage, lined with tinsel and affection, and he would never—never—give her the key to leave.

The fire blazed high, casting dancing gold over skin that had long since forgotten how to pull away. He didn't just hold her anymore—he claimed every inch, stripping away the last faint barriers between them as if they were nothing more than tissue paper against flame. His hands were everywhere at once: sliding firmly up her thighs, pressing deep into the curve of her waist, tangling in her hair to tilt her head exactly how he wanted. He made sure she felt the weight of him—his strength, his hunger, the absolute certainty that she belonged to him completely.

"You feel that?" he rasped against her skin, his voice rough and dark, no longer softened by polite pretense. "Every part of you answers to me. Every sigh, every shiver… every heartbeat."

He laid her back among the soft fur throws and scattered pine needles on the sofa, his body covering hers entirely—heavy, unyielding, consuming. He didn't rush; he savored every slow, deliberate stroke, every kiss that burned like fire, tracing every secret curve and hollow until she was trembling, breathless, unable to think of anything but his touch. When he entered her, it was deep and unhurried—possessive in every rhythm, his gaze locked fiercely on hers so she could not look away, could not hide anything from him.

"Mine," he repeated, over and over, a dark litany against her lips, her throat, her breasts. "Only mine… no one else will ever know you like this… no one else will ever touch you here."

He controlled every pace, every depth, every sound she made—driving into her with a feverish intensity that bordered on violence, yet always careful to keep her anchored, wrapped tight in his arms so she had nowhere to go but closer. He loved watching her unravel—seeing her eyes darken, hearing her breath hitch, feeling her cling to him even as he made her feel how thoroughly he owned her pleasure, her body, her very soul. The golden bracelet glinted on her wrist, catching the firelight as he pinned her hands above her head, holding them fast while he moved deeper, harder, claiming her again and again until there was no line left between devotion and obsession.

"Even when you fall apart," he whispered, breath hot and ragged against her neck, "you fall apart for me. You belong to this love… this hunger… and I will never let you be anything but mine."

Outside, the snow piled high against sealed windows, locking the world away; inside, amidst the scent of pine and burning wood and skin on skin, he took everything she had—gave her everything he was—and wove them together into something that felt like heaven and a prison all at once: a Christmas gift of total, absolute possession.
