Chapter 45 - Chains of Golden Light

The amber dusk had deepened into a soft, shadowed gold, the office quiet as a sealed secret. Irina moved to rise from his lap, thinking to turn off the lamps and lock the final drawers—but the Dean's arms tightened instantly, not gently this time. His hold was iron beneath the velvet warmth, locking her in place before she could shift even an inch.

"Not yet," he murmured, and his voice had changed—lower, edged with a quiet, unyielding hunger that sent a delicate shiver down her spine. "Did you think I would ever let you slip away when the world goes dark?"

He turned her in his grasp until she was trapped between his body and the desk, the polished wood pressing cool against her back. His hands roamed over her freely now—no longer just tender, but possessive, mapping every line of her as if he were staking claim to skin and bone alike. His eyes, soft gold in the fading light, bore into hers with an intensity that felt almost frightening: bright, obsessive, utterly convinced she belonged to him entirely.

"You try to move as if you still have a choice," he whispered, brushing his thumb over her lip until she parted them. "But you made your choice the moment you walked into this room. You are mine—every breath, every thought, every beat of that heart I feel racing against me."

He leaned in, kissing her not with the slow sweetness of the afternoon, but with a deep, consuming fervor that left her breathless. It was a kiss that tasted of obsession: he would not let her turn her head, would not let her pull back, his fingers tangling tight in her hair to keep her exactly where he wanted. When they broke apart, his gaze never wavered—scanning her face as if to memorize every flicker of emotion, every trace of color.

"I see how you look at the door sometimes," he said, a faint, dark smile touching his lips—gentle on the surface, yet twisted with something unshakeable. "Wondering what lies beyond these walls… who else might see you, might want you. But they cannot. No one else can have what belongs to me. I would burn this whole world down before I let anyone take you from my side."

His tone remained soft, almost affectionate, which made his words all the more chilling. He trailed his fingers down the line of her throat, over her collarbone, resting his palm heavily over her chest—holding her still, as if she might try to vanish.

"People think I am just a Dean—orderly, reasonable," he murmured into the crook of her neck, his breath hot against her skin. "But reason has no place when it comes to you. If I must chain you to this desk with golden light… if I must make sure you never step out of my sight… I will. Because the thought of you belonging to anyone else—or even being free to leave—feels like a knife in my heart."

He pulled her close again, his embrace suffocating in its completeness, burying his face in her hair so he could breathe her in deeply, greedily. "You say I hold on tight now? That is nothing. You are the only thing that keeps me whole, Irina. Without you… there is only darkness. So do not ever test me. Do not ever try to wander where I cannot follow."

He lifted her effortlessly, seating himself fully in the chair again with her straddling his lap, her hips pinned firmly under his hands. His gaze searched hers, hungry for absolute submission, for the certainty that she understood: this love was not a choice—it was a bond, a possession, something he would guard with every fiber of his being, even if it meant keeping her locked away from everything but him.

"Stay right here," he whispered, kissing her eyelids, her cheeks, claiming every inch of her as his own. "Where I can see you always. Where no one else can touch you. This is your sanctuary… and your cage. And I will love you until the end of time—even if I have to make you love me back in every breath."

The lamp glow softened into something thick and honeyed, turning the room into a gilded cage he had built just for her. Irina's breath caught as his hands moved—no longer merely touching, but tracing every boundary of her freedom, as if marking exactly where she ended and he began. He felt the way she hesitated, the slight tremor in her frame, and it did not deter him—it fed the dark, fervent fire in his eyes.

"You tremble," he whispered, his fingers splaying wide across her back to press her flush against him, eliminating even air between them. "Is it fear? Or do you finally understand… how completely you belong to me?"

He did not wait for an answer, as if he already knew every thought in her head—claimed every one before she could speak it. His lips trailed down the column of her throat, slow and searing, pausing at the pulse that beat too fast beneath her skin. He kissed it like a promise and a warning all at once.

"Let me show you," he murmured, lifting her easily from his lap to seat her on the desk amid the scattered papers—pushing them aside carelessly as if nothing mattered but the space she occupied. He stepped between her knees, his hands gripping her waist with a firmness that allowed no shift, no escape. "No doors, no distances, no one to steal even a glance of you."

He reached out and locked the office door, turning the key twice before dropping it into his pocket with a heavy, final clink. Then he returned to her side in an instant, as if the short walk across the room had been too long apart.

"I used to think patience was a virtue," he mused, his voice still gentle, yet threaded through with an obsession that made the air feel thin. "But patience feels like torture when every second you are not entirely mine—body, mind, and soul—is a second wasted. I see the way you smile at others, Irina. The way you speak so softly to colleagues… and it makes me want to destroy everything that isn't us."

His fingers tangled into her hair, tilting her head back until she had nowhere to look but his eyes—deep, dark, and burning with a possessiveness that knew no bounds. He kissed her then, deeper than before, devouring her gasp, tasting every part of her as if he meant to consume her entirely so she could live only within him.

"If I could," he whispered against her swollen lips, "I would keep you here in this light forever. Feed you, clothe you, love you until you forget there ever was a world outside these walls. Why should you need anything else? Anyone else? I am your protector, your love, your only truth."

He ran his hands down her arms, lacing their fingers together and pinning them to the polished wood on either side of her hips—a restraint that felt like devotion and captivity woven together.

"You think I am joking?" He smiled, but it never reached his eyes—those eyes that watched her every blink, every rise and fall of her chest, as if missing a single moment would break him. "Try to leave, and you will see. I can be kind… and I can be the only thing you will ever know. I will not lose you. Not to time, not to choice, not even to your own wishes."

He leaned in to rest his cheek against hers, his voice dropping to a silken, terrifying whisper.

"Every breath you take is mine. Every heartbeat mine. And if you ever try to pull away… I will just hold you tighter. Until my love is the only air you breathe."

He released her hands only to wrap his arms around her again, lifting her back into his embrace as if he could not bear to let her touch anything but him. He rocked them slowly in the golden shadows, kissing her temple, murmuring promises of forever—promises that felt less like freedom and more like an eternity spent safe in his arms, and trapped in his obsession.

"Now," he said, contentment settling dark and heavy over him, "you will not even want to leave."
