Chapter 9 - The Goddess Who Wanted Me Dead

Ethan raised the axe and looked at the terrified Lord Minotaur as it ran away.

"I'm just going to do the same thing you did to me."

He pulled his body backward.

His left leg moved forward as he stepped back, while his right arm pulled the gigantic axe behind him.

Then

He swung it forward with all his strength.

WHOOSH!

The axe flew straight toward the fleeing Lord Minotaur.

The creature suddenly paused.

It heard the sound behind it.

Slowly, it turned its head.

Its eyes widened when it saw the gigantic axe flying toward it.

Before it could react

The axe struck.

The Lord Minotaur's head was severed, and its enormous body collapsed to the ground.

Blood splashed onto the dungeon floor.

The gigantic axe continued flying before suddenly changing direction.

It came back toward Ethan like a boomerang.

Ethan raised his arm.

He caught it.

BOOM!

The Lord Minotaur's enormous body finally crashed onto the ground.

Ethan smiled.

Then

A notification appeared before his eyes.

[HP +100]

[HP +100]

[Level Up]

[User has reached Level 3.]

"Yes!"

Ethan smiled brightly.

He looked at the notification in excitement.

Then his stomach growled.

Grrrrrrr!

Ethan's expression immediately changed.

"Ah"

He held his stomach.

"I'm really starving."

He looked toward the Lord Minotaur.

"How long has it been since I last ate?"

He stared at the creature.

"Well"

"Minotaurs are usually edible, right?"

"They have meat, just like normal livestock."

He smiled.

"But I wonder what a Lord Minotaur tastes like."

Ethan walked over to the corpse.

He raised his axe and cut off part of its arm.

He separated the meat with the axe and looked at it.

"Alright."

He looked around the dungeon.

There were several stones scattered around the area.

Ethan gathered some of them and placed them together.

Then he found a stick and placed the meat onto it.

He raised his hand.

"Fire."

A flame appeared in his palm.

He used it to start a fire between the stones.

Soon, the meat began roasting.

After a while, the scent of cooked meat filled the air.

Ethan inhaled deeply.

"Finally"

He removed one of the sticks holding the meat.

He blew on it several times before taking a bite.

He immediately began eating.

He was so hungry that he barely stopped to chew.

When he finished the first piece, he immediately picked up the second one.

He ate that one just as quickly.

After finishing, Ethan leaned back and placed a hand on his stomach.

"Finally"

"I'm full."

He breathed out.

"That was really good."

He paused.

"Even though the meat was a little bland"

He looked at the fire.

"I've been eating so little that I could barely keep myself standing."

He let out another breath.

"For now"

"I actually feel comfortable."

Ethan stared into the flames.

"But"

His expression slowly became serious.

"A lot has happened."

"I finally got my skills."

"And not only that"

He looked down at his hand.

"Maybe the Goddess of this world really is targeting me."

He clenched his fist.

"And why is my ability called God Touch?"

"I don't really know."

He looked at his palm.

A small drop of sweat slid down his face.

"But does it matter?"

Ethan lowered his head.

"One thing I know"

"I've faced a lot of storms in my life."

"A lot."

"But there was never a time when I was as terrified as I was that day."

He remembered Sela and the others.

"Those people"

"They tried to kill me."

"For the first time in my entire life"

"I was truly terrified."

"I just wanted to live."

"I just wanted to survive."

He clenched his fist.

"I would have died if the Bloodfang Wyvern hadn't appeared and forced them to run."

"And I would have died if I hadn't gained God Touch."

Ethan looked down.

"But still"

"I wonder how many people like me exist."

"People who haven't done anything wrong"

"People who haven't harmed anyone"

"And yet, those people are still willing to target them."

His fist tightened.

"But one thing I know"

He slammed his fist against the ground.

BOOM!

"The same way they tried to kill me"

"I'm going to kill them too."

"And that Goddess."

"The Goddess everyone in this world holds in such high regard."

Ethan stared into the fire.

"I don't know where she is."

"I don't even know if she's actually real."

"But if I ever see her"

His eyes became cold.

"I really want to kill her."

"I really do."

"Everyone keeps praising the Goddess and calling her great."

"But what has she ever done for me?"

Ethan's expression darkened.

"When I was little, did anything ever go my way?"

"A peaceful life?"

"Never."

"I was never troubled when my parents were alive."

"Things were actually better back then."

He smiled faintly.

"They were good parents."

"We lived a normal life."

"There were arguments sometimes, but"

"They loved us."

His expression slowly changed.

"Then they died."

"Everything changed."

"I had to take care of my brother alone."

"I had to go out and fend for myself."

"And then"

"My brother fell into a coma."

Ethan's fist tightened.

"That made everything even worse."

"And then there was that shitty Goddess."

"For some reason, she wanted me dead."

"I never received anything from her."

"She never did a single thing for me."

He clenched his fist harder.

Suddenly

A thin line of blood appeared in his palm.

Ethan paused.

He looked down at his hand.

Then he slowly relaxed his fist.

"Now is not the time."

He stood up and looked around.

"There are probably monsters nearby."

"And not only that"

He looked at his around.

Ethan looked around the dungeon.

He could feel something was different.

"Something is coming."
