A short while later, Ryan Sterling replied.

This really stumped Mr. Shaw.
He knew his boss's temper and just how stubborn Evelyn Grant was. Being stuck in the middle like this was an impossible task!
But doing nothing wasn't an option.
Mr. Shaw clutched his phone, returned to his office, and checked the firm's remaining tasks and client appointments for the day. Then... gritting his teeth, he stood up and headed for the building's management office on their floor.
"I need you to cut the power to the firm's floor in a little bit. If anyone asks, tell them it's a power outage or a system failure. Understand?"
The staff member at the management office looked completely baffled. "Uh... why? If the law firm has no electricity, how is anyone supposed to work?"
"That's the point. The only way they'll take a day off is if they can't work."
