That night, we all assembled around the large dining table that had been in Roman's family for generations. Martin sat next to Lauren and across from them Ed and Kristen were seated next to Marcus and Lori. With me and Roman that made four couples.
Geoffrey served salmon with asparagus and a parmesan risotto that was so cheesy and creamy.
"The chef did a really great job," Ed said, shoveling in more risotto.
"I'll let her know," I said.
Everyone drank white wine from one of the bottles in the wine cellar that Roman's family had been cultivating for years, while I opted for a non-alcoholic sparkling cider. As Roman opened a second bottle of wine for the guests, I stood up to make a toast.
"I forgot to do this at the beginning of the meal, but I just want to tell you all that I appreciate all of your help and support."
I held up my glass and then clinked it with Roman's, and everyone started doing the same, saying "cheers."
