I sat down next to Kristen on the floor. "What's up?"
"It's silly, really." She blew her nose. "Ed and I were having a great time. He can be really fun." She smiled, and I was glad to hear it. "But then we were on the dance floor and someone bumped into me, I don't know, and I just freaked."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I just turned around and wanted to whale on the person. All these feelings came flooding back, you know?"
"I understand," I said. "Sometimes little things trigger me as well."
"So I screamed and ran off the dance floor. Ed followed me, but I didn't want his help. I was just too embarrassed."
"Why didn't I notice?" I asked.
"You were busy with your party. It's okay. It was just something - no one could help me with. I sent Ed away. I've ruined it now between us."
"Don't say that," I told her. "I'm sure he'll understand."
