Alone with Roman that night, watching our favorite reality show where families competed in a karaoke contest, I told him Lori's news. "Lori got a new place to live. She invited us for dinner tomorrow night."
"Oh, that's nice." He said.
"That's nice?" I spat at him.
He gave me the look which he gives me sometimes when he knows he's done something wrong but isn't sure what it is.
"Um..." he took a hard swallow. "That's terrible?"
"It's neither."
He still looked at me confused.
"I understand her wanting to be on her own, but I think it's too soon. I don't want her to go." I hung on Roman's arm.
"She's going to be okay. Everything is pretty safe now. I think..." he took his time in saying what he wanted to just to be careful about what words were coming out of his mouth. "It sounds like you just love your sister a whole lot and don't want to see her go."
"That's it. She shouldn't go, then."
