Episode 9: The Launch
Seo‑kyung's debut single dropped on a Friday.
The producer, Kang Dae‑won, had set up a small showcase at a club in Hongdae—just industry people, journalists, a few influencers. Seo‑ah arrived early, wearing a dress that Ju‑hyuk had picked out for her ("You're representing the artist's family. You should look the part."), and stood in the back, watching the room fill.
Seo‑kyung was backstage, running through vocal exercises. Seo‑ah slipped in to see her.
"You ready?"
"I'm terrified."
"Good." Seo‑ah straightened her sister's collar. "Terrified means you care. Just remember: they're not judging you. They're waiting to be moved. Give them something to feel."
Seo‑kyung took a deep breath. "When did you become the wise one?"
"I always was. I just didn't have the courage to say it."
The lights dimmed. Seo‑kyung walked onto the stage.
The song was the one she had played at The Vault—the one about the sister who built walls. But this time, it was fuller, richer, backed by a band that knew how to make every note land.
When she finished, the room was silent for a beat. Then the applause came, loud and genuine.
Seo‑ah watched from the back, her hands clasped in front of her, and smiled.
The counter in her vision flickered gold.
