Veil was your average American broke college student; his only real problem was that he was too lazy and was barely maintaining a B average.
Veil was walking down the cold street at the dead of night. He was so close to home, finally out of that stupid college dorm, 3 states away from his parents. He could taste his mother's homemade food. Usually, on Sundays like this one, she would make some salmon; his mom was a big fan of seafood, he enjoyed it, but wasn't crazy about it like the rest of his family.
Just thinking about college life pissed him off—studying, tests, socializing—all of it sucked. Why couldn't everyone just sleep in? The constant partying and loud noise made studying hard. Unfortunately, he needed this; it was the path to becoming a forensic pathologist. The career was interesting and paid enough to buy his mother and sister a house in five years. Few jobs offered that, but that was beside the point.
Veil really had to piss, so he went into a dark alley, ignoring every horror movie he had ever watched. He had just begun taking off his belt when he heard sudden, quiet footsteps. This scared him shitless—every horror movie he had ever watched told him this was a bad scenario to be in. Even if monsters and killer clowns didn't exist, humans did, and they might be worse. What if something worse than even death happened to him? He finally saw a guy wearing a black ski mask, a black shirt, and a black jacket, holding a short silver gun that looked straight out of a 50's noir film. BOOM BOOM BOOM—three shots, two to his left shoulder, one to his abdomen. He was bleeding out, and fast. The last thing he saw before his eyes faded to black was his killer looting his bleeding corpse. What a "fool he was going to get caught leaving so much DNA." Those were Veil's last thoughts before his death, his last time mocking someone mentally.
Soon, Veil saw a dark abyss. He was falling into it endlessly; he didn't know how much time passed. All he could do was think. At first, this broke him, but after a long enough time down the line, he simply accepted this. He was forever gonna be falling in this dark abyss. This might just be hell. He had not known what he did to deserve this, but there were seven sins:
pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, sloth.
The most likely of the seven was definitely sloth. He committed it more times than there were days in a decade. There were 3 other possible sins he could have committed his friend told him about. Personally, he wasn't even sure these even counted as sins:
obsession, apathy, deceit.
He was open to the possibility of this being hell. This was just how he was gonna spend his eternity in a black abyss—falling, breaking mentally, never knowing why he truly deserved such cruel and heartless—. It almost made him want to curse his creator. He hadn't known how much time passed; there were no signs really. Maybe his mom was long gone, maybe his sister had a son, maybe humanity lost in a war against machines.
He truly did want to feel anger, but that emotion was annoying. When he was younger, he hated the face he made when he got mad; people laughed, they made jokes, so he stopped making it. This led to him feeling the emotion less and less. It led to him rationalizing things, but there were the occasional outbursts. His first fight in middle school started because of that. While he couldn't remember the reason, he remembers it was dumb.
If he stayed here long enough, would he forget the image of his mother, of his sister? Would he forget their names?
In truth, the younger version of himself was a tyrant and a bully. Even the current Veil was like that—always punching first. The reason was simple: why get hit when you could hit first? His sister taught him that, and it's worked so far. Why question it? And even now, he agreed—if someone looked agitated enough to fight, he swung. Even while fighting, all he felt was annoyance, thinking his next move to do maximum damage was most annoying. His mom made him do boxing because if he didn't, he was going to lose a fight sooner or later.
Light flashed around him, and he was blinded for a few seconds. He didn't know if he really even had eyes at the moment, but it happened. When he looked up, he saw a woman. She had big breasts; normally he wouldn't take note of this, but damn, they were huge. The woman had golden eyes, blonde hair, and was floating. He looked at his own form, hoping, praying. Unfortunately, it was still distorted. Even now, it was just a shadowy outline.
The woman began to speak: "Hello, sinners. Each of you may be wondering what I'm talking about, so I'll explain. Every 500 years, the 10 primordial sins reincarnate, and this increases people's urge to commit sins and naturally sends more of them to hell, which has 10 rings: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, sloth, obsession, apathy, and deceit. I'm sure you all hated it there. Hell may be where sinners go, but it was designed originally to cause eternal agony to you sins. However, you're in luck—my favorite novel ended, and I want to see an alternate ending, so I'm sending you there now. Survive, my 10 sins—no, my champions." Veil felt a bit scared when listening to her speech; she sounded like a chuunibyuo child.
then an outline nearly opposite to veil spoke this outline had a feminine " miss goddess what is your name."
the goddess paused for a few moments before saying " oh sweet little greed you may call me lillian goddess of reincarnation." lillian's tone was that of an adult speaking to a child
Then another outline spoke. This one sounded similar to Veil, like he just wanted to be out of here: "Are we going to be sent there without anything special?" lilliane seemed to look particularly down on this specific outline. "Apathy, along with a system, I will send you all there with one unique skill. Oops, times up. The god of death and the goddess of life, my bosses, gave me little time to do this, so bye."
