Two days later the group made a decision.
They needed supplies.
Fuel.
Medicine.
Food.
Rick organized a small supply run into the nearby countryside.
Shane volunteered immediately.
Glenn joined them.
Andrea as well.
Ghost climbed into the truck without asking.
The road outside the quarry was quiet.
Too quiet.
After nearly twenty minutes of driving they reached a long stretch of highway.
Cars covered the road.
Hundreds of them.
An enormous traffic jam.
Glenn whistled.
"Looks like everyone tried to leave the city."
Rick stepped out of the truck.
"Search the vehicles."
The group spread out between the abandoned cars.
They found food.
Water.
Some ammunition.
But most vehicles had already been looted.
Carl explored near the edge of the road.
He climbed onto the roof of an RV to look around.
"Dad!"
Rick looked up.
"What is it?"
Carl pointed toward the distant tree line.
Walkers.
Dozens of them slowly moving toward the highway.
Shane grabbed his shotgun.
"Back to the truck."
But Ghost was already moving.
He jumped onto one of the cars and scanned the area.
Then spoke calmly.
"More behind them."
Rick followed his gaze.
Another group of walkers approached from the opposite side of the highway.
They were being surrounded.
Glenn ran back to the truck.
"Time to go!"
Rick grabbed Carl.
"Move!"
The survivors jumped into the vehicle as the walkers closed in.
But one walker suddenly grabbed Andrea from behind.
She screamed.
Before anyone else could react—
Ghost spun and fired a single shot.
The walker collapsed instantly.
Andrea scrambled free.
Shane slammed the accelerator.
The truck burst through the gap in the traffic jam and sped down the highway.
Inside the vehicle Glenn exhaled slowly.
"That was close."
Rick looked at Ghost.
"Good shot."
Ghost reloaded calmly.
"We need to leave the quarry soon."
Rick frowned.
"Why?"
Ghost looked back toward the highway filled with walkers.
"Because they're spreading."
