Chapter 2 - THE FIRST CRACK

The classroom remained noisy after Kian's arrival, but at the back corner, a different kind of silence existed.

Amara continued writing as if nothing had changed.

But something had changed.

She could feel it.

Someone was watching her.

Not in a disturbing way… but with interest.

She didn't look up.

She refused to.

Kian leaned back slightly in his chair, resting his arm on the desk.

His eyes occasionally shifted toward Amara.

She wasn't like the others.

Most students had already tried to greet him, impress him, or get his attention.

But not her.

She didn't even try to look at him again.

That alone made her stand out.

"Hey, Kian!" a boy from the front row called out.

"Where did you transfer from?"

Kian replied casually, "Another school."

"Why did you leave?"

Kian paused for a moment before answering:

"Let's just say… I wanted a change."

The class laughed lightly and moved on.

But Kian's gaze drifted back to the girl beside him.

During the next lesson, the teacher gave an assignment.

"Pair up and discuss your answers."

Immediately, students began forming groups.

"Come join us!" one girl shouted.

Another group waved at Kian.

But before anyone could reach him…

Kian turned slightly toward Amara.

"Partner?" he asked simply.

The room went quiet for a brief second.

Heads turned.

Eyes widened.

Whispers started again.

"Did he just… choose her?"

Amara looked up slowly.

For the first time since he sat beside her, their eyes met directly.

She studied him for a moment.

Not surprised. Not excited. Just observing.

Then she replied calmly:

"You don't know me."

Kian nodded slightly.

"That's why I asked."

Another pause.

Amara closed her notebook.

"…Fine."

They worked together quietly.

Kian noticed something strange.

Amara didn't struggle with the questions.

In fact, she solved them faster than most students in the class would.

No hesitation. No confusion.

Just clear thinking.

"You're smart," Kian said.

Amara didn't look at him.

"I know."

The answer was simple… but confident.

Kian raised an eyebrow slightly.

Not arrogance.

Just certainty.

As the bell rang, signaling the end of the period, students began packing their things.

But one small incident happened before everyone left.

A group of students walked past Amara's desk.

One of them accidentally bumped into her table.

Her bag shifted slightly… and a small, expensive-looking notebook slipped out.

Kian noticed it immediately.

But before he could pick it up—

Amara quickly bent down and grabbed it.

Too quickly.

Too carefully.

Almost… as if she didn't want anyone to see it.

Kian's eyes narrowed slightly.

Something was off.

That notebook didn't look ordinary.

And the way she reacted…

Was not normal.

As Amara stood up, she noticed Kian watching her again.

This time, his expression had changed.

More curious.

More observant.

Less casual.

She held her bag close.

"…What?" she asked.

Kian smiled faintly.

"Nothing."

But in his mind, one thought echoed:

There's more to her than she's showing.

And for the first time since he arrived…

Kian felt interested in something other than his own world.
