Caleb's POV
Stella's voice cuts through the night air like a blade. "So, two of your friends are hanging with that pathetic human, and..." Before she can finish her venomous thought, Jace jumps out of the passenger seat and heads toward the refreshment stand. Damn it. Her head snaps around to face me, eyes blazing with fury. "All three of your friends are hanging out with her? Has she turned into the school slut overnight?"
The word hits me like a physical blow. My hands clench into fists as rage builds in my chest. Stella calling Riley that makes my blood boil in ways I never expected.
"Just shut up, Stella. I'm trying to watch the movie." The words come out harsher than I intended, but I'm fighting to keep my anger in check. The last thing I need is for Stella to see me defending Riley.
That would seal Riley's fate permanently.
Stella's mouth drops open in shock. She stares at me for a long moment before slamming out of the car, the door rattling on its hinges.
