Riley's POV
Watching Mason pour tequila into the red plastic cup, I barely register the impact before Zoey crashes into me from the side. Her enthusiasm nearly knocks me off balance as she squeals in my ear.
"I can't believe you actually showed up! I was so sure you'd bail on us!" Zoey's words slur together slightly, her cheeks flushed from whatever she's been drinking.
Before I can even process what happened, Mason reaches behind him without turning around, his hand finding my waist to steady me. The casual way he does it, like it's second nature, sends a flutter through my stomach that I try to ignore.
"I wasn't exactly planning to be here," I tell Zoey, shooting a pointed look at Mason's back. "Someone decided to stage an intervention at my house, and my mother folded faster than a house of cards."
