Caleb's POV
Tonight, I couldn't face Riley. Couldn't sit in the same room with her knowing she was leaving. The thought of being near her without being able to touch her, kiss her, hold her close while pretending I was okay with her walking away felt impossible.
I knew I'd crack completely. Mason was furious with me, said Riley was hurt that I didn't show up tonight. But seeing her would have destroyed what little control I had left. I would have begged her to stay, made everything worse.
The clock on my nightstand glowed two in the morning. Four more hours until Riley left town forever. My chest felt like it was caving in. How was I supposed to just let her go? She wasn't even speaking to me anymore. Mason crashed on my couch, claiming he needed to sleep here since he had early morning duties. Truth was, he knew I was falling apart.
