"Never think for a moment that I avoided you because I wanted to, Riley. This connection between us has existed since we were children. Walking away from our friendship ranks among the most difficult and foolish decisions I've ever made. Keeping my distance became increasingly challenging, particularly after I reached seventeen. Something about you drew me in with a force I had to resist daily. I assumed you'd curse me out if I attempted to speak with you after four and a half years of silence. And unless I'm mistaken, that's essentially what you did." His lips curve into that familiar smirk as he glances my way.
"What are you talking about? I never cursed you out!" I protest, genuinely bewildered.
His laughter rumbles low in his chest. "The day I offered you a ride home."
